For those getting legally married in Mexico..

OK, so I have the worst luck known to man. I thought I had everything covered for our legal wedding in Cabo, I spent the extra money to have our marriage license apostle. Well The first time I went to the Security of State, after waiting 45 minutes they made an announcement that their computers were down that does name changes. So I took a half day of work yesterday to take care of it. I wait another 45 minutes and I get to the counter,,,,,,,

 

Clerk: Umm this is in Spanish

Me: Yes, I was married in Mexico

Clerk: Well I don't know how to read Spanish

Me: Well did that is a marriage certificate and here is where I had it apostle

Clerk: Well you need to get it translated

Me: I was just at the Social Security office and they had no problem issuing me a new card

Clerk: Well you still need it translated.

 

SO, now I have to find a freaking office to translate it. What a PITA.. So for all you future brides, make sure you have both the apostle and have it translated just so you don't have the problems I had.

Yikes tammy!! That sucks!! I have to look back in my emails but I thought maye mentioned that part of her fee was not only translating the ceremony but the paperwork too...

 

Honestly, for $95 for an apostille, that should include translating!! I could stamp a piece a paper!! Geez!!

 

I am going to have to ask Maye and I am going to tell her...I need to make sure that all this stuff we are doing will make me set so I won't have to do anything when I get back home except change my name....and I don't want anymore hidden fees!!!

 

What frustrates me the most (I have no patience) is that we go into this not knowing anything and these people who are helping us are supposed to be experts and they should be able to forwarn us of all the things we will need to do and handle without us having to ask or find out the hard way. Proactive!!!

Well I hired Maye as my WC and nope her fee didn't include that. Hmm but I wonder if I email her if she can translate it for me since she does that and she has a copy of my marriage license.. hmm *crossing fingers*

OK, sorry about this... but once it's translated does that need to have an apostle stamp on it? Cause that would suck.

Supposedly the Secretary of State keeps a list of people that do legal translations...this is what the lady at the counter told me before I twisted their arm (actually just was persistent) and got my name changed with my Spanish un-apostilled Marriage License. I think it just depends on who you get on what day, seriously. They went and talked to the managed when I was there and the manager ok'd it, especially after I told them the Social Security office didn't have a problem...Sorry Tammy- you do have bad luck. Hopefully Maye can translate for you- otherwise, I'm sure there are places that do it (I still need to get mine done, just in case) and I bet it doesn't cost that much.

 

Side note: FYI, Juan told me he'd have my slideshow done Monday, then Tuesday, and well, here we are on Wednesday now...lol

Sarah I'm starting to get really depressed seeing wedding pictures from brides that got married after me, salt on the wound will be when JT returns from doing Jess's wedding at the Sheraton. :-( I just want a peak at this point to tie me over but I don't want to bug him because I'm know he's busy. :-((((((

 

The translation quote I'm getting is between $50.00-$65.00 and it takes a couple of days. I emailed Maye and I'm waiting on her response.

It may be different in each city/state but no a translated certifiate doesn't need to have an apostle stamp, just needs to be on company letter head.
