MAC Cosmetics in Playa

Recommended Posts

hi ladies!

i used to work in cosmetics at Nordstrom with MAC. most of the artists that work for MAC are freelance artists in their own right. a lot of them do jobs outside of MAC.

HOWEVER it is against store policy for employees to solicit work outside of the MAC store. the best way to hire one of the artists outside of the store would be to go in and get a trial make up application and talk one on one with the artists to see if she or he would be willing to work an outside job. this can also be tricky making sure you don't hire someone who flakes out on you.

good luck! let me know if you have more questions.

I didn't know there was a MAC on 5th, this is a great idea! I think it sounds like fun to go to the town and get beautified together, then return back to the hotel. My wedding is at 5pm and I don't want to be sitting in my room all day anxious anyway wink.gif

Yes, if you can make the trip out there that would probably work better. Just make sure to make an appointment with them so you know that the time you want your make up done is available. Also make sure to buy atleast a lip gloss as Mac artists work on commission. Best part: The make up application is free!

Hi everyone! I'm getting married in Cancun in December, do you think it would be worth it to trek to Playa with the girls to get our makeup done there? I'm extremely worried about how our makeup will turn out if I get it done in the Riu's Renova Spa....or, is there anything closer to Cancun that people can recommend? Lastly, how would I go about contacting this MAC location to get appointments? Many thanks!

Great thread. I was wondering the same thing......luckily my resort is close to 5th so I think I just might go there instead of paying the off-site fee to bring them to me.

Thanks ladies!

I was totally worried about what to do with my makeup but honestly after seeing my friends get theirs done for their wedding they all ended up fixing or touching it up themselves. I really only trust myself and as nice as it would be...nobody can do mascara better then us ourselves.... I ended up having my friend who has a cosmotology license to take me to a MAC store not Nordstoms has to be an independent MAC store and i was able to get 40% off on any makeup purchase because of her license. ANYBODY with a valid cosmo license gets this discount and most don't know! The gal at MAC did my makeup and showed me how to blend the eyeshadows which I think the eyes are the hardest part if you don't know how to do makeup. I got the brushes which really make the difference and wow I got a good deal on them. I ended up getting all my makeup including eyelashes for 100 bucks!! Good luck, hopefully you guys find some friends to help you out w/ the discount. Oooooh..... or you could ask a friend of a friend or your hairdresser for a favor :)

Emily Joy-

Thanks for the "insider" info! So you're saying that if you plan on making a purchase at the MAC store, they will just do your make-up for free? So then would you have to tell them when you're calling to make your wedding day appointment that you are going to be making a purchase as well??

    • How about installing a home web cam? And hire a house sitter to check up every week?
    • You can hire a graphic designer on Fiverr to create the wedding cards then just print them yourself. Another option so you can save money is to create the card how you want it on Canva and have them printed at a printing shop.
    • My wedding is coming soon, and I would like to know where I can find best wedding cards at affordable prices. I only find one store known as Lavenderpaperie.com where the cards are lovely and unique, But I want to know the other option name so that I can choose best wedding card. Please, if you have any suggestion on where to go, let me know. Thanks & Regards,

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
