Any other Canadian brides doing an AHR?

Our wedding is July 30, 2010 at Dreams Cabo ...then we're having an AHR 3 weeks after we get home in Cambridge, Ontario at The Pines (THE Pines). I have done very little planning so far, but want to attempt some DIY projects and get going on things soon.

We are getting married in Jan and need to do an AHR, but still haven't decided when...

I would like it to be in the summer, however I am being told not to have it so late after the wedding... so maybe late April?? not sure.

Are you guys having it at some kind of venue or at your house?

We were thinking of having at our house to keep costs down and just have it catered and hire a bartender.... get our booze from the liquor store etc.

  • 4 weeks later...

Our AHR is two weeks after our wedding. We are having it at a hall, but no dinner.......just cocktails, dance and midnight lunch.

Michaels has a weekly coupon in their flyer for 40% off any regular priced item. I have been purchasing one thing per week.....haha! Slow process, but I have the time and it will definitely help to save money!

We are also doing the cocktails, dance and late buffet. Just one big party.

TeNeil - photocopy your coupon. A friend of mine works there and you can use as many as you want - 1 per purchase though. Also look on the web because they accept all coupons US or Canada. I just printed one off for 45% off. The extra 5% helps!!

I'm a West Coaster as well planning an AHR. Well first I'm trying to plan the wedding...LOL...I keep thinking that once I'm done planning the wedding that's it but nope then I have to start working on the AHR. Our wedding is November 2010 and since that means Christmas is right around the corner we are waiting until January to have ours. We are just doing an appetizer buffet kind of party at my favourite restaurant, where I used to work as well(so hoping for a small deal). I didn't want anything formal so this way we still get a party but it won't cost us an arm and a leg. I swear ever since I started planning this wedding Michaels and dollar stores have become my 2nd home. I'm finding Dollarama has some pretty decent things for a dollar store.

The Pines looks beautiful....I saw it on Rich Bride Poor Bride....great choice! We live in Hamilton and doing ours at the Yacht Club overlooking the water about 2 weeks after we get back. Having it on a Friday night - apps, food stations (pasta, carved beef, mashed potato martinis, seafood, chocolate fountain). We aren't doing a cake but instead having boxed cupcakes that will serve in place of it and act as a favor. I even picked up some left over candy from Hallowe'en and going to have it on some high top tables in large glass bowls.

I haven't really started planning yet do i need to get organzied!! I have a few friends who will handle all the decoratation. Is everyone planning to wear their wedding dresses?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
