Any other Canadian brides doing an AHR?

I'm from the west coast, doing our DW in Jamaica in May 2010 and our AHR on June 18, 2010. Our AHR is at the Heritage Hall in Vancouver. Just wondering if there are any other Canadian brides out there preparing for an AHR?

We've got the actual DW planning all pretty much done (we're booked, ceremony details confirmed, dress bought, rings on hold, etc) so now I've got the next 8 months to focus on the AHR! My plan is to DIY as much as possible, in order to keep the cost down but a lot of the stuff I've come across on the net are hard to come by in Canada (or materials just cost an arm and a leg to ship here!) Anyone have any good suggestions??

I'm on the East Coast as well. We're getting married in Jan and not quite sure yet when we'll be able to have out AHR- likely in the fall. Our AHR will be somewhere in Ontario where my family is from. I'll be DIYing as much as I can as well. I have found Michaels to be quite good also.

I am from Ottawa, we are having an AHR. It is an evening cocktail party. We are having it in April even though we are getting married in November. I get all my supplies from Michaels and the dollar store. I spend alot of time searching the web. I have found that Martha Stewart has lots of informative information. Good luck and happy planning.

Lara,

I'm so jealous!! I can't believe you have everything mostly planned for your late May wedding!! I am getting married the first week of May, and FI and I are still working on the invitations and just booked the resort like 2 weeks ago!! I love the heritage hall, great choice. For myself, I envision an outdoor picnic-y barbecue kind of event... when are you having your AHR? I think mine will be in August, so around 3 months after...

Aww, no worries, you'll have everything all done very soon I'm sure! This forum has really been a lifesaver for me. Reading people's planning threads and AHR threads has been a huge source of inspiration! The great thing about a destination wedding is that it can take a year to plan or a month to plan, just depends on your personal preferences!

Our AHR is actually 3 weeks after we get home - in June! I wanted to get it done right away, because I suspect after the trip I'll really be eager to have another huge party haha! Also, there are a lot of other people in my life that are getting married in the summer, so I had to book it as soon as possible so as not to lose out on a date=)

An outdoor picnic-y kind of event sounds fantastic! Where are you planning to do that? We sure are lucky, living in Vancouver, hey? There are so many beautiful spots to choose from!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
