I'm trying to save money on this wedding, so I'm thinking of not sending out a STD magnet or postcard.

I'm thinking FI and I (and our mom's) will just let everyone know by word of mouth or email.

Is that tacky?

Any idea of other ways to let people know without sending postcards etc.?

It wouldn't be tacky! I know several people that have sent out their STD by email, with a link to their website.

Just wondering, are you planning on sending out formal invitations closer to the date at all? I ask because FI and I decided to fork out the money to mail STDs, but we are not going to send out formal invitations closer to the date, we're going to do that via email since everyone will already have received their STD 9 months earlier and will have visited our website...

I think it's fine to email a STD or just a link to your site.

A postcard STD is the cheapest option though. You can get 100 postcards for about $10 on vistaprint and then postage is 27 cents on a regular sized card.

So you could do 100 postcards for less than $40 shipped.

Still, I think an email is fine. If you want to get creative, check out mailchimp or mad mimi which allows you to make an html email so you can make it decorative. Using those, you can also see how opened your email. They are free for less than 100 or so addresses.

Wedding Dresses - Wedding Cakes - Wedding Planning - Unique Wedding Ideas - By TheKnot.com lets you design your wedding website FOR FREE and there is an option to send a nice save the date that is designed with the background of your wedding website and there is a link on the save the date that directs people to your wedding website that will provide the guests with all of the information that they need to attend your wedding. I have received several compliments on both the site and the STD. Emailing the STD is universally used to save money and IMO economically correct lol. Good luck

Whew! What a load off.

Ok thanks ladies for the suggestions.

I think we'll make a pretty email (Morgan thanks for those sites) and include a link to our website (we're making it for free on Weebly.com) and send a letter to those folks we know aren't web-savvy.

Oh and yes, we're going to make and send invitations closer to the date. (maybe January for our June wedding...that's enough time right?)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
