I wish that I had read this before…

We just returned from our destination wedding in Akumal and had hired Jennifer Smith to coordinate our wedding. She is unprofessional and employs unprofessional people. She is a smooth talker and knows all the right things to say to land the job, however she falls short of all the things that she promises. We met her in June and hired her because we didnâ€t want to worry about planning our destination wedding. Our wedding was at Casa Romero, a private villa; we had rented for the week and wanted to enjoy our time there with friends and family. After we paid her $4500 the she suddenly became less responsive and we really didnâ€t hear anything from her in the weeks preceding the wedding. As a result…

  1. We had to track her down when we arrived in Akumal and didnâ€t speak with her until after we had been there for 2 days.
  2. She had lost all of the photos and information regarding our requests that we had given her in June.
  3. She was generally unavailable and we spent most of our time dealing with her assistant Natalie who was equally disorganized and unprofessional.
  4. The people that Jennifer hired to press the dress didnâ€t do it right and had fix it the day of the wedding, they also put more wrinkles in my shirt than when I gave it to them.
  5. The rehearsal was rushed and on the day of the wedding nobody really knew what to do.
  6. The guitarist that Jennifer hired missed notes and was out of tune. He also started singing when my bride was walking down the aisle after we specifically requested an instrumental version.
  7. The videographer that Jennifer Smith hired was barefoot, wore an obnoxious Hawaiian shirt during the ceremony and is in nearly every picture that was taken.
  8. The DJ that Jennifer hired announced my wife as “Angie†twice, her name is Angelica. Also he didnâ€t play any of the songs that we had requested and the songs that he did play he would stop in the middle and start something completely different.
  9. The decorations that were used were not what we were promised.
  10. The cake looked nothing like what we requested, however, it tasted great.
  11. At the end of the night when we went up to our room…the safe had been ripped off of the wall and we lost $1200 cash, my wallet, all my cards, 4 passports, and some jewelry. My I-phone was also stolen. Iâ€m including this last one due to the fact that her staff was running around inside the house all night and I know that they were in our room. We just have a gut feeling that someone connected to her stole from us.

I'm glad that everything worked out for you and the pictures are beautiful. For the most part all the things that went wrong were small and could have been laughed off, but there were so many of them. I feel like we put a lot of faith in Jennifer and in what she could accomplish. Thanks for putting up the review...at least we know we were not the only ones with a bad experience when dealing with her.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
