Moon Palace, I have been there, you can hire an outside photographer if you are willing to pay what it worth, there are plenty of photographer around and for all budgets depending on your needs. :)

thanks for this input... its making me lean towards eating out less at restaurants so I can save up for a phenomenal photographer!

I too was skeptical about paying a bit too much for photos. But you know what, You're gonna look at these photos and wonder what could've been if you had gone with a good outside photographer. You could never go back and redo the day. This is the way I looked at it and it helped me make my decision to go with an outside photographer. If I went with the Deluxe photo package that MP has available which is $1890, I would only be saving about $500 because the photographer I'm thinking of hiring is charging $2300. Is it worth the extra $500-600 dollars? Absolutely!! I used the deluxe package as an example because It's the package I would have chosen. You do whatever works for you. Hope this helps :)

I ended up not using the resort's photographer.  They raised their prices and I wasn't too pleased with their overall quality.  I found a VERY reasonable photographer, Ismael Pacheco whose work had more of the photojournalistic style that I wanted.  His all day package including a TTD was less than Moon Palace's cheapest package.  I don't think he has as much experience so I am sure the more he gets, his prices may go up.  He also does not speak much English so it made it more diffucult for posed shots, but I was fine with that as I prefer candids.

We used our vacation dollars toward the DVD of the wedding and the first hour of our reception.  We had enough money left over we could have done 1 more hour of the reception so I sort of regret that.  Since my parents stayed longer they picked up the DVD for us so we haven't seen it yet but they said it was amazing.  So I can't wait to see that!

These pictures are beautiful.  I'm going to contact my wc tomorrow and request David as my photographer.  If you don't mind me asking, do your remember which photo package your daughter purchased? Did David take pictures before the ceremony while the bride and groom were preparing?

He does enhance his photos afterward for the photo book and we also got the entire CD of all of the photos (the ones he enhanced and all of the photos in the raw (about 200)). We had the Sapphire package and added the CD for another $165. Here are some of the photos I posted in shutterfly:

I did so much research regarding photography at the resort and found some horrible pictures. It scared me because it is the most important thing to me. I mean, besides my memory which is really bad, that's all I'll have. lol  I wish I found out about David Pena sooner. :T

You cannot use your vacation dollars toward ala carte items with the exception being pictures packages and DVD's.  Not all of it is available either.  We tried to use the basic picture package to take pictures at our cocktail party and it is only good toward weddings.  You can use it toward any of the picture packages A, B, C, D, E etc. And then for the DVD including an extra hour, copy or master copy.

What is not include are the ala carte picture items such at getting ready pictures, trash the dress, etc.  Pretty much just the packages are covered and the DVD.  I don't know how long they will keep including this however.  I know they just changed prices and the photography at MP so it may just be a promotion for more people to use so they can use in their marketing materials.   I know we had to sign a release allowing them to use our DVD for marketing if they want to.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
