Group Excursions in Riviera Maya - Any ideas??

Recommended Posts

The beach at Tulum is small, but it one of the nicest beaches I have seen anywhere!! The water was an incredible blue colour, and with the backdrop of the ruins, a magical place. We did the Tulum/Xel Ha trip, and found it a little crammed, time wise. We could easily have spent an entire day at Xel Ha

Quick question. Are you planning on Paying for these excursions, or will your guests be paying for themselves? I expect 94 guests, so there is no way for us to pay for a large excursion. However, I would like to offer something "planned" besides our welcome fiesta and wedding/reception. Our welcome dinner is Thursday and wedding on Satuday, so right now Friday is a free day. Any ideas are welcomed. We will be in Akumal which is a small town. I was thinking people who are only there for the long weekend will want to stay in Akumal so I am torn!

I have an etiquette question...

If most of our guests are arriving in MX Wed (wedding is Sat) would it be ok to plan to go on excursion Thursday, and people could join if they wanted- and pay for themselves- or should we plan to just hang around the resort for people who dont want to spend the extra money?? Thanks for any input

I think it would be fine to plan an excursion for Thursday and if anyone doesn't want to go they can stay at the resort.

Hi ladies! We're doing "Good Morning Newsletters" (I stole the idea from Martha Stewart and made my own powerpoint template) each morning and we're going to include activity suggestions each day - along with information on how to book it. Then we're taking the wedding party and thier spouses/significant others on a catamaran cruise which will be our gifts to the wedding party. We're doing a Welcome dinner on Thursday and a cocktail party on Friday then the wedding on Saturday, I was afraid a planned event for everyone on Friday would be too much - I guess I just want my guests to feel hosted but not like they're being herded here and there you know?

Here is my Week of Events I sent out in a brochure 7 months prior to wedding:

MONDAY: Bride & Groom arrive

TUESDAY: Welcome Dinner at ___

WEDNESDAY: Excursion to Tulum ruins and zip lining—more details to follow.

THURSDAY: Cancun clubbing bus trip—7pm until….

FRIDAY: Catamaran Boat ride “Rehearsal Dinnerâ€, hosted by ____

SATURDAY: Beach Wedding, Cocktails & Reception

SUNDAY: Chillin†on the Beach

MONDAY: Saying our good-byes

I think the Catamaran Boat trip "hosted by____" kind of implies that the other events are not paid for. I am going to try and see if I can subsidize or pay for the excursion and the clubbing trip too. I am getting quotes now for the events and will decide then. I figure the clubbing might be the cheapest thing to pay for - its just a bus to Cancun and back.

I think after the holidays (so 4 1/2 months to wedding) I will send a mass email asking people what activities they'd like to do and the cost.

I have between 35 and 45 guests, and there are a couple older ppl and also ppl with young kids, so not everyone is going to do the activities.

I agree, the Catamaran trip is probably the best activity. Seeing the area by boat is always great for a change of scenery. And if you are not at an AI resort, you can ever provide dinner on the boat. It runs about $50 per person - add extra if you need transportation.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
