I have absolutly no idea how much a photographer is, and I think I'm asking a lot... But I just wanted to get some input...

I want to get engagement photos, photos of the wedding day, TTD Photos, and also a few photos when I get home at the reception, because my Grandma can't come to my wedding, and I want her in some pictures...My Girlfriend just finished the photography course and has done a couple weddings before... She is charging $1800.. Is that a good pricehuh.gif

TTD is a Trash The Dress session - usually the day after your wedding you either use your wedding dress (or a similar cheaperversion) and take loads of fun photos - usually in the water on the beach, rolling around in the sand,in the villiage - the result is amazing - just search in the forum for TTD photo sessions.

Portfolio is really important. Its a different technique used for natural portraits, wedding shots, couple photos, indorrs and outdoors and its a talent working with the strong natural light and colouring on the beach. You need to balance the price with a photographer who can take amazing photos in all the conditions.

The right photographer not only has a great understanding of colouring and composition, as wellas lighting and saturation - but also will know things about your best angles and take more flatering photos...

$1800 is a great price. You just want to make sure that you check out all of her pictures and that they are along the lines of what you are looking for. Make sure you shop around for photographers so you have a good idea of what type of photographs you're looking for!

$1800 is a great price for what you'll be getting, but I have to agree with vlynnw. You definitely need to shop around first. I had no clue when it came to photographers when I first started, but after looking around a ton of work and portfolios, I started to develop what style and "look" I wanted for my wedding pictures...and everyone is different. There were some great and talented photographers whose work and style just didn't fit what I was looking for. So my advice is if pictures are important to you, definitely do your homework then gauge people's work (including your friend's) against the style you're looking for. Good luck!

Not to be rude to your friend, but $1800 for someone who just started it could be a lot. There are many vendors who charge similar rates after years of work. She has no experience. Paying $1800 to her just so she can practice on you is not ideal. Also, hiring a friend is one of the worst things you can do. If you aren't happy with the images, your friendship will be ruined forever. And since she has very limited experience, chances of that happening are very high.

No disrespect to your friend but she's still pretty much an amatuer. Charging $1800 for someone who is just starting out I feel is alot of money. If you really think about it she will benefit regardless even if she only charged you for film or her out of pocket expenses since she would be using you to build her portfolio and get to gain more experience.

I would be afraid to use a friend - no matter what the price... what if you arent happy? You cant really complain and there arent any retakes for your wedding. I think you should shop around a bit. I looked on here and found a bunch of photographers that the other brides were happy with - I looked at endless slideshows of pics and found the style that I liked and then emailed to get the price list. I looked at the price and what you get for each and narrowed it down to two. I compared them point for point and looked closely at their portfolios and then chose one. You will find that some photographers portfolios will really "move" you and others are just blah.... I would go back to the pictures again and again to make sure that I still liked them... It was really tme consuming but I am happy with my choice now. Good luck :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
