Impossible to save

Recommended Posts

OMG I definitely know your pain on this thread! I feel like something bad is always happening! So far we have had our car broken into (had to pay for repairs), FI got into an accident and it was his fault, I have invisalign so I'm paying a fortune for that, Dog got sick so we payed over $800 in vet bills! Then FI went to the dentist for a annual cleaning and he found out he needed to root canals...WHAT?! Seriously it never ends. Somehow though you always come up with the money. I really don't know how we are making ends meet, but you do because you have no choice! Keep your head up and don't fight about it, this is the time when you guys are supposed to be happy =)

I know exactly what you are talking about. It is just very difficult right now with everything that is going on, the state of the economy, incomes not rising. Bah! He just paid off his car and the last of his student loans and so we are hoping to put the money he was spending into a savings account for the wedding, since he is the only one that is employed. I just picked up some babysitting but it is hardly enough to pay for my student loans. So saving isn't even in my future.

I hope things turn around and you are able to put something into your savings soon.

Good luck!

We took over a year to save for our wedding. We knew we'd have to sacrifice, so we decided to stay in our crappy little 450 sq. ft. apartment which overlooks a lumber yard, and a cement factory in Brooklyn. We had never really saved and budgeted before, so we were prepared to cut out any frivolous spending. A few months later, right before Christmas, he got laid off from his job, and 3 months after that, I got laid off from mine. Our cat had to go to the kitty ER twice, costing us around $2K. We had booked tickets to Kauai for his cousin's wedding, not realizing that both of us would be out of work...

The thing was, it all turned out to be a blessing in disguise. DH was able to freelance and earn more money. Plus, he received a severance package, which paid for a good portion of the wedding. And I basically had no daily expenses, no need to shop or get my hair & nails done, so I was able to hold on to most of my DOL check. Before we left for the wedding, we moved into a 1000 ft. loft, still in the same neighborhood, but OMG so much bigger and no cement trucks!

So, my point is, a lot of things- especially money- may make you feel right now that it's impossible to get there, whether financially or emotionally or even physically, but everything really truly does work out in the end!relief.gif

Also you have to keep in mind what exactly is important both in your day-to-day and in your wedding budget. When emergencies come up, like a sick pet or a broken car or (my least favorite) dental work, remember that those are the unexpected things that happen to all of us every day, and are manageable as long as you keep your cool, and don't let yourself get too stressed out!!

And besides, there's enough brides in this forum who have been in, or are in, the same place, and that somehow it makes it a little less stressful...

    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
    • So we are currently looking for an all inclusive resort for the wedding. We have 60 guests and found all the Dreams resorts as options and all of them gave us a quote and discounted price since it’s off season etc. Resorts in Punta Canta gave us a reasonable price, Dominicus gave us a really good deal then La Romana Resort and Spa gave us their regular price and so hard to negotiate. Will someone tell us how special is this resort that they won’t give us a good discount when all my guests are staying in their resort for 5-8 days. We are bringing $$$ in their resort and not give us a discount?  What is so special with this resort?  Can somebody recommend a beautiful resort?
