Wow you ladies have been busy. Spent the last week in DC and it was boring sitting in a hotel conf. room listening to someone talk on and on.

So while I'm there I get a message from my FI - tried to put the deposit on the hall and it's been booked. WHAThuh.gif Not happening. After awhile of back and forth I tell him to leave it be until I get home - not much I can do from DC.

Let me back up a bit. We put a hold on the hall (FI's parents are members and do a lot of business there). The dumbass tells us not to worry about a deposit yet and if someone else wants it he'd call us and make us make a decision. We hadn't heard from him, but thought we should put the deposit down. So the call pretty much goes like this:

FI - so we want to put our deposit down.

Dumbass at the Hall: Sorry dude, your day is taken.

FI - you said not to put the deposit down and you'd call if someone else was interested.

Dumbass at the Hall: Since you didn't call we thought you weren't interested anymore.

...Click.

Oh no you didn't. So FI messages his mom who DEMANDS the number. 5 mins later my FI gets a message - all fixed the date is now yours. ha ha ha ha ha I LOVE MY FMIL!!

All your talk about being upset - oh my have I ever and being in another country I've never felt more helpless. To be honestly I'm kinda glad I was away or some yelling might have happened and I might have made it worse.

She was feeling that I was cutting corners with cost and she understands I am still paying off my son's schooling and trying to get my business going. She offered my FI money towards our wedding. Which he politely declined and said we're fine. Which we totally are and would never accept her help. Love her dearly however we're both over 40 and yeah if we don't have our crap together at this point we shouldn't be getting married.
so we're there for dinner and she brings this up again and I say thanks and we have it all under control. I am by not means cutting corners and i am not spending a ton of money on things that are not important to me.
Anyway she leaves the room and comes back with this huge red folder thingy and gives it to me. Holy Flippin Crap!!!! I am looking at the cover and it has a lady in a mink coat on it. I am looking totally baffled, so is FI, she then says to me " I want to buy you a mink coat for a wedding gift from me. I am speechless "yup me, not a word can i find.
So I open this folder and it is about custom made coats and they start at $6000. First i am not sure how I feel about a fur coat and second not something I would ever think about owning.
So here I am stunned to no end, speechless and overwhelmed!!!! I finally got out of my mouth "I don't know what to say". I am very grateful that she cares that much about me and would think to buy something so expensive for me as a wedding gift. BUT I don't know how I feel about it.... Where the hell would I wear it and would I wear it?
She asked me to call her this week she would like for me to have it or be fitted for it before she goes away the beginning of December.
I am totally shocked!!!!! I feel like crap because I thought she invited us for dinner to complain about the wedding... What would you gals say? I am really not sure how I am feeling.
Susie,

That's such a tough situation! Very gentle honesty (whatever you decide) is probably whats on order... fur coats are not for me, but to each their own. Its a kind and flattering thing that she wants to get you a gift but I think since it is such an expensive gift, you own it to her to not allow her to get it if it is not what you really want.

on a totally different tangent, I was thinking today and wondering when we are at the altar, what do you wear as lipstick? Are you guys wearing lipstick? Lipstain? Neat? Is it ok to have lipstick on when you are about to have an important kiss?

Hope everyone had a good weekend (the Bucs won, so it was good for us!)

Susie- Wow that is a tough one personally i would feel really uncomfortable wearing around a mink coat anywhere. You might want to bring it up to her that you feel you don't have anywhere to wear it and you would hate to have such beautiful dead animals siting in a closet.

MsGoodRich- I am in love with Maybelline 12 hr lipsticks...they actually stay on for like 4 hours at a time. I apply them in the morning before going to work talk say "hello, hello, good morning, hello, good morning........ like a million times.... then start in with can i get you a drink like a million times.... then comes can i get you a snack... what do I have? I have these options (to every DAMN customer!!) and the lipstick seems to stay in place for about 4 hours.... and lets not for the thank you, good bye now, thank you! LOVE being a flight attendant somedays (dripping with sarcasm!)

I am worried about the mascara I am so emotional and I worried that I am going to cry from riding up it the horse and carriage to seeing him and all the way through my vows!!

Any great waterproof mascaras ladies?

Oh wow... my FBIL is a realtor. It's nice having one in the family. He started a rental business with us and we have 4 rental properties. It's hard work but fun at the same time. Way to go on passing!!! Yayyy!!!

Nice job on the OOT bags! Your flowergirls are going to love them!

Wow... a mink coat? That's really nice of her. I would be shocked too, but unfortunately I would have a hard time wearing such an expensive coat once made of a real animal. sad.gif I'm an animal lover and just couldn't do it. Your FMIL sounds like a sweetie! Maybe you could ask her to get you some real silverware instead so when you have her over for dinner, you can use it :) Just a thought.

Kristaheer
Way to go FMIL!!! Hee-hee!

Hope all you girls had a great weekend! Today is Monday (12:48pm) in China and I have the Monday blues... auughh!!!

I am worried about crying too- once the waterworks get going its hard to stop. My borrowed thing is a hankie...Ive always used covergirl (the pink and green bottle) mascara and had good results.

I will try the Mabelline 12 hr... and will have to practice kissing with my honey (darn!) thanks for the suggestions. :)

Thanks ladies for your two cents!

I am awake this morning and no wine in my system, I can think straight!

I will be thanking her for the kind offer, however saying no to the coat.

First I am not the woman who would just wear that anywhere, shopping, the grocery store where ever. I would be uncomfortable with the stigma attacked to the coat, the yes it's a fur coat and the who the hell is that in the coat. I would be embrassed if i ran into a friend while wearing. Silly but I am modest!!!

Second I don't have the rest of the attire to pull it off, boots, purse and personality. I hardly think my over worn knock of uggs would flatter the coat.

third I never go anywhere to actually wear it. Even our company xmas parties are at local pubs.

I just would not be comfortable owning one or wearing it. My step-daugther wouldn't even hold the folder for me to put on my shoes last night, she thought the whole concept was disgusting. I know there are tons of people the feel that way about fur coats. Now i just have to find a nice way to tell my FMIL. My FI suggested that I tell her to buy me diamond stud ear rings (simple).

Now on to the make up thing, if you ladies are trying different lipsticks and mascara please keep us all updated as to your trials and results. Please please

kristaheer - well done fmil.like you say it was a blessing in disguise really that you was,nt there,it got sorted without you getting too stressed.

futuremrsgoodrich - i have,nt thought about it really.to be honest which ever 12hr type expensive lipstick i have worn has,nt worked.i would like something that i know will stay so if you can suggest something that would be good.don,t worry about the kiss thing he can either snog it all off or leave it until after the photos then i will take it off lol.

futremsmoulton - i am going for false eyelashes.never worn them before but i like the thought of really thick noticeable lashes.i use max factor false effect waterproof.thats never caused me any problems.

susieq- i think you have made the right decision.not just because of the dead animal thing because i do think its a personal each to their own subject.but it is a hell of a lot of money for something you are not going to wear.im sure you can be tactful for a change and explain this to her.just stress to her how grateful you are for the suggestion.i have just had a thought of you with your tool belt and trainers on with the coat and make up on.

Hi Shells

I will talk to FMIL on wednesday, I have another dress fitting and she wanted to tag along to see my dress. I will have to tell her, Just the thought of having her spend that kind of money on something I will never wear is just wrong. I know I would never feel comfortable with it on. Funny enough I know she has two fur coats and I have never seen her with either on...

I went to Sephora today and looked their stuff... holy smokes for about $250 I could have got the basics for my wedding day.... That is way too much.... I wear make up on the weekends and sometimes during the week. Mostly nothing!!!!! I think that is alot for makeup. I will maybe go to the local drug store and check out the brands they have. $54 dollars for a foundation was a bit extreme.....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
