One year?!? Is that paid leave or you can take up to one year and still have to be guaranteed a job when you get back??

So I had to Google it to see what all this business is about.

"In 2000, parental leave was greatly expanded in Canada from 10 weeks to 35 weeks divided as desired between two parents. This is in addition to 15 weeks maternity leave. In most situations, a combination of maternity and parental benefits can be received up to a combined maximum of 50 weeks. In Canada maternity and parental leave is paid for by the Employment Insurance system.[4]"

What if you're a business owner? It's still paid leave??

If you are searching for where the US falls on the graph you just need to scroll DOOOOOOOOOWWWNNNNNN........doh.gif

Good question about the business owner....I have no clue. I know that the first 6 weeks is covered by insurance (short term disability) and then the government takes over from there and you get an equivalent to unemployment pay. You don't get full pay - I think it works out to 50-55%, but you keep all your benefits and I know at my work I still acrue vacation so I get one year, plus any vacation for that year. If I miss review time I would also be eligible for a raise and bonus too. You don't HAVE to take a year or you can split it...like I could take 8 months and my hubby could take 4 or any such breakdown that equals a year.

I may be wrong, but I thought Switzerland or a country over that way got 3 years.

I still haven't told my parents and I'm feeling really bad about that for some reason. I think I might tell them soon. I'm just worried because my mom is always worried about money and she had a small cow when we bought our truck because we had just bought the house and then we're going to get married. We both work and have good jobs!! You'd think at my age she would have been able to let go...she still refers to me as her baby. ha ha ha ha I just want them to be happy for us, but I'm worried about what she's going to say. Guess I won't know until I do.
Funny how we still look for parents approval on everything!!! She will be over the top excited for you sweetie!!! I'd buy her a little something for her house that has to do with baby and just give it to her and tell her "mom I need you to do something for me, I need you to take on the roll as grandma to my baby and I need you to start being my best friend". Tell her "her mommy job is done and she has done a great job and now you need her to help you with your baby". She will be happy for you... Krista if she finds negitive in it... Don't let that take away from your joy, you are an adult and it is your life. Getting married and starting a family is just part of the life you want. Good luck hun "we'll be here!!!

BTW!!! Stepdaugther wasted no time in asking for lunch money and I don't have any.. left it at that... hahahaha I guess she phoned her dad and told him I wouldn't give her money and she needed money for lunch, he told me she was all attitude on the phone with him. He told her there was sandwich meat in the fridge and now she knows what if feels like when people reject you. She hung up on him!!!!!

So my AHR is in two weeks, I am so excited... we're doing an open house and we have about 75 people confirmed, lets hope they all don't show up at the same time lol... My house is big but that could be a tight squeeze... My SIL is bashing me behind my back because I am doing it at home and not some big sit down dinner at a hall... Oh well

Susie- You can't do that to us pregger girls who are WAY over emotional.. I got all teary eyed when I read about the job of a mom being done. I might have to use it on my mom anyways because she startes crying over EVERYTHING to do with the baby. My MIL gave me the sweetest card and I showed it to my mom and it made her cry. lol. And I thought I was sensitive.

Speaking of Hormonally pregnant and sensitive.... that DAMN ASPCA commercial with the puppies and kitties makes me bawl like a baby. I have to turn it right away whenever I see it (anyone else with me on that one?) If you haven't seen it YouTube - The Latest ASPCA Commercial try to tell me I am going crazy!! lol

Krista- Justin and I wrote our ceremony together and then wrote our own vows and I was a wreck through them and he cried during his vows. What are you guys thinking of doing? 56 more days is SOOOO exciting-- Now that I am preggers I don't think I will be crashing your wedding, but I am all for a NYC meet up!

Krista- I think that your mom will be very excited for you because its a new and exciting chapter of your live. Any morning sickness yet? I bought a book that I LOVE! Its your pregnancy week by week. Justin and I lay in bed and read it together every sunday and it has pictures of how the baby is developing every week!

Tricia- Thanks for that info... I think I am going to move into Susies house in Canada now after seeing that crappy grid! I can't imagine how tough that it going to be for you to have to leave the practice for any amount of time... thats your baby too! So glad to hear that it is all going so well for you! Your drunk hairdresser told me to tell you hi when I talked to you again-- she loved all of your photos.

Did we ever tell you guys the story about how my sister did Tricia's hair and the first time she met her she was beyond wasted? Its quite humorous she kept squeezing Tricia's hand and saying how happy for her she was over and over.

So I figured that since I shared the good news, I'll share the potential bad news with you guys. I spent Saturday evening and most of today at the hospital. I'm bleeding pretty bad, but not what they would expect from a miscarriage. I had an ultrasound today and they couldn't see any signs of prenancy, yet the blood work does say I am (or was). They say that I either miscarried or I'm too early to show up on an ultrasound. I have to go back to the hospital on Tuesday to have more bloodwork done. I guess if the pregnancy hormone they test for doubles, then I'm still pregnant. If it goes down, then I'm not. After quite a bit of crying I'm alright with things now. I mean it's natures way of telling me that something was wrong. My hubby put it best...better now than 5 months from now. I've been trying to look on the positive side of things and I'm doing not a bad job. The positive out of all of this was because I was so irregular I wasn't even sure I'd be able to get pregnant - well that I know we can do so we just wait and see and go with the flow. Sorry if I saddened the mood of the thread.

Oh no, Krista. I am so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how bad you must feel right now. You are absolutely right though, if that is the case and you did miscarry then maybe it did just mean that something was wrong. Please keep us updated and please feel free to vent to us or let us know how you are doing if not many of your friends and family know. We have all become so close and we all care about you!!! Again, so sorry to hear that news. sad.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
