Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

We didn't pursue this issue...  I don't think it was an actual billing error, more an unfortunate side effect resulting from how they do the billing.  We didn't realize this in advance, but basically the wedding coordinators give you your final total in US dollars and then you have to go to the front desk to pay your bill.  However, the front desk will only bill in pesos.  So they convert your bill from USD to pesos, according to their exchange rate.  They charge your card in pesos, and then the credit card converts this BACK to your local currency, and usually charges a fee to do so (usually around 2.5%).  So it's quite likely that the currency conversion rates at the hotel and at VISA aren't equal (especially since there are usually different rates to convert from USD to pesos, vs. pesos to USD).  Plus a fee gets added on to the conversion.  I don't think there's much you can do about it, other than paying in cash.  And I've heard that some credit cards have no foreign currency fees, so that might be something to look into.
oh I see ! Weird how the 500.00 deposit was in usd and didn't see any extra conversion charges but might see that on the final bill... Weird!

do your research beforehand, most likely the credit card you used for the deposit doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.  :)

Hi Lori We are having a legal wedding on Jan 6. Mu wedding planner says only symbolic ceremony has sand ceremony but it is something that we really want to do and include our childen ( we have both been married before and so it's a blended family sand ceremony), where you able to personalise your legal ceremony ? And how long did your wedding certificate take to arrive ? Thank you x

We didn't even realize that our credit card had a foreign transaction fee before using it at the resort to pay for the wedding.  Whenever we used it for smaller charges (billed in other currencies) in the past, we just assumed that what showed up on our bill was the current exchange rate.  It's certainly less noticeable on lower amounts.  Anyway, it's just something everyone should consider ahead of time and keep in mind, as the resort will definitely charge you in pesos and not USD.

- were your guests allowed to choose between the gold menu two options, as well as the vegetarian menu? I'd like to choose the lamb and seabass options, but I think picky eaters might take advantage of the vegetarian option, if I can have all three options.

- did anyone order these meal options and have comments on quality?

Thanks ladies!

We gave our guests 3 meal choices - fish, beef and chicken. Our WC Lorena instructed us to send her each guests meal choice 30 days in advance. Since we included that on the RSVPs, it was pretty simple to do.

I had our menus printed by RebeccaAllurenment, she did our invitations. Each table had 1 tented 5x7 menu card.

Since we had the Ultimate Package, we basically go to mix and match the different entree choices (no more than 3 entrees). Again, I don't think there would be any issue with that as long as you provide your WC with each guests meal choice.

I had the chicken and my husband had the sea bass. I thought they were both excellent. However, I heard from my guests that the beef tenderloin was way too under-cooked.

Here's a photo of my menu:

Hi how are you finding Ayahamint? I have had to chase quite a bit . I sent my wedding planner in a week ago and she responded to say thank you and she will be back to me soon. It's our wedding 11 weeks on Monday 😄x.
ehhh shed ok I mean our wedding isn't until 13 months! But I sent her a photo of a centerpiece I liked with a glass hurricane pillar candle and sand and shells and first email she said she would send it to the people to get a price quote than I emailed her a few weeks later and she said to send it to her again LOL so don't know if she ever got a price quote.. A little frustrating but I know I have time!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
