Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

I'm wearing flats - both because I want to be comfortable and also because I'm afraid of heels in the deck!  I only went into one store (Town Shoes - in Toronto), but I'm 90% sure I'm going with these.  My dress is very simple (long chiffon, sweetheart strapless with tiny row of bling under the bust - kind of Grecian looking) so I wanted a fun pair of sandals!  I promise these are nicer in person  ;)

Hey all - just got a couple responses back from Ana - regarding outside vendors. Man..its like pulling teeth to get a straight answer!
So far I've only found out that EW Weddings is an approved vendor   - and will need to pay for a day pass for them
I asked her about photographers - and of course she's telling me about Adventure photo - but I asked about approved outside photograhers and she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Maybe someone else on here has a bit more info - I'm seriously considering Ivan Luckie

I thought I had seen a better/cheaper price listed in the forum somewhere.  I don't understand, don't they have a list with ACTUAL PRICES?? not what they feel like charging that day???

I really wanted to do both the cigar roller and the fire dancers.  i thought it would be a nice thing for my guests but at these prices i'm not going to do both and $300 for 10 cigars is crazy to me!

I think the quote below is ridiculous.  I recv'd the same quote from Lisbeth.    Im thinking maybe they got a roller from off the resort??

The cost of this show is $800 usd for 20 mins show that includes 3 dancers and 1 drummer. Any other vendor might have a better price but they do not guarantee quality neither they will take responsibility in case of any damage to the property. Please confirm."

The black was what I wrote her (as you can see I named DecoCan and they had already been on my invoice anyway)  and the red is what she wrote me back.  Naturally I wrote her back b/c of the discrepancy in price.  I let her know that fellow brides on this forum had used the fire dancers thru DecoCancun at the price quoted on my original invoice ($420 for 3 dancers for 15 minutes) so why would it be $380 more for the same service, from the same vendor, at the same resort?

That was 2 days ago. So far no response... :-s Shocking right?

Hi Ursula,

Can you give me some insight into the the dancers themselves - in terms of what they do or how they dress. I am trying real hard to find out what the show looks like. My worry is that its a couple of "Burning Man Hippies" swinging some flames around - I am hoping to find something that looks and feels more Inka. Is there a website or pictures of these vendors you can point me to?

Thanks,
Rick

Hey Everyone,

I am just joining this website and I wasn't sure that I wanted to book my wedding at DRC until I started reading some of the stuff that y'all have posted.  Our wedding isn't until May 2012 but I figure it is never too early to start planning :) I actually tried to book our wedding for the 1st 2 weekends in May 2012 but they are already booked!!! I thought for sure we could book this far out and get the weekend we wanted.  So we don't have it secured yet but we are probably doing it May 18th.  I am going to very busy reading all of the past posts. Are any of y'all doing Dreams of Love or Dreams Ultimate? I was leaning towards the Love package but now pretty sure I want to do the Ultimate. I just didn't know if it was that significant of a difference.  Can anyone tell me the difference between the silver and gold dinner party?

Thanks,

Sarah

Sorry, I don't have any info for you, but I totally agree...its exhausting trying to get answers from them. I'm sure they hate that there's websites like this- imagine if we didn't have fellow brides to compare things with? They'd rob us blind, lol. I honestly just don't understand why they don't have a set price list, like black & white, this is the way it is and these are the prices...frustrating to say the least.

Does anyone know what the current outside vendor fee is now?? I know its been discussed several times, but they're so back and forth, who knows. I think I recall being excited since it dropped from $500 to...$50? Am I making this up? I can't remember...

My wedding is next week (4/1) YAY!!!!! Samuel Luna is an approved outside photographer and I only have to pay the $80 day pass fee. He has been a dream to work with! Originally when they changed the policy I was going to have to pay the $500 fee but then they discussed it with the photographer and magically it worked out! I'm using the resort photographer for a "Trash the Dress" session the next day. This has been quite the process considering I've been through 4 wedding coordinators already. I currently have Veronica and she's been great to work with, even calling me one evening to work out details. I don't plan on working out the decor for the ceremony and reception until I get there as I'm hoping to work out a deal. We went with the ultimate package but I'm not using a lot of it so I'm not sure if it's worth it. We're bringing our own officiant and I'm doing my own makeup. I think I may have chosen food off of the silver menu instead of the gold menu also. If I could do it over again I may have went with the love package. No biggie though and I'm sure it will all work out well! I'll let you know all of the details after the wedding!

Tigerlily,

You're so lucky you work near a Michael's.  I've been wanting to go there but I forget as my day gets crazy busy.  I will add it to my calender b/c it seems like there are so many wonderful things to browse at Michael's.  I am so mad at myself b/c I was going to buy these gorgeous sashes on ebay and just this past weekend I came back and it's all sold out.  I hope the seller will get my colors again, it was sooo beautiful and cheap too.  Boo hoo, now I know when I want something, I need to buy it right away and not think twice.

Fortunately (unfortunate for my wallet), I work near a Michael's, and lets just say, the girls in there know me by name, haha...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
