Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Lindsey,

Im so excited for you! I wish mine was sooner! :) I have a couple questions for you. How much did you spend on your OOT bags and where did you get everything from? Im trying to decide whether or not im going to do them or not since everything is seeming to be much more expensive then I thought!

Also, would you mind sending me any copies of your welcome letter, itinerary, etc? That would be so helpful just to get ideas! My email is Rach0636@aol.com.

Thank you!

Besides our clothes we need to bring down...

-My bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, and corsages/boutonnieres

-Sand and sand ceremony kit

-Wine stopper favors

-Beach towels for OOT bags

-20 Embroidered OOT bags

-Sunglasses for OOT bags

-All of the other contents of the OOT bags

-Welcome letter, itinerary, guest book mad libs cards, and programs

-Cake Topper * "I Do" letters

-Starfish place cards

-Menus

-Gown, jewelry, shoes, etc.

-Kevin's wedding day attire

I think that's it but it's very overwhelming!  We are also flying US Air direct but we will have to pay for our bags, I believe, so that sucks.  I am hoping I can do it by Kevin, myself, my mom, and my dad all taking an extra bag.  I will check the boxes that the favors and beach towels are in.  They will count as bags...then I will try to get the rest of the things in two bigger suitcases.

My main concern are my flowers.  Does any one have any suggestions on how to bring down silk/real touch bouquets?  I don't want to check them in a suitcase for fear they will get tossed around and ruined, but I will if I have to.  I thought about putting them all in a carry on bag.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I can't believe how soon my wedding is!

I leave in 8 days!! I am soo excited! I have 4 checked bags with just wedding stuff..thank goodness my family and my fiances are flying down with us to help carry all that. The thing that takes up the most space is definitely the OOT bags. I am also making a detailed set up list with photos to make sure that everything looks the way i want it to. I will post my review when we get back!!! YAY

We and my furture husband plan to do alot of excursions. Xcaret, Dolphin Swim, Chichen Itza, Xplor

Ive been emailing Amstar to get an idea of prices, you can with them at the resort.

but i'm but sure if they are the cheapest

They have alot of things to do at the resort. Every night you get a paper that tells the things to do the next day. We had alot of excursions planed and ended up cancelling one cause we were worn out and just wanted to relax at the resort. We went to the Xcaret and did the swim with dolphin's they were both great. My Hubby and them did the Xplor and said it was alright.

Mariposaazul,

I was wondering when you got the confirmation for the outside photographer fee?  I booked with Del Sol and now Dreams is throwing up alot of roadblocks.  I am very persistent but it would help if I had some details of your's... anyone else in this same situation??

Omg I'm so excited for you I can't believe it's so soon- to bad we are going to miss each other! I'm carrying a ton also- we are flying with Frontier and your allowed one free checked bag each additional is 20 dollars. I think you should just carry on your bouquets because its not worth taking the risk of checking them!

hey guys

I've looked into this and have decided what were going to do. we feel like were getting a good deal on the catamaran.

first i asked our TA and obviously they are more expensive then the resort, so i got a recommendation from gina.

she lead us to ALEJANDRA OROZCO....

giving us a private catamaran for a discounted price. (as long as you guarantee or at least pay for 25 people)

4 hours, open bar, snacks, snorkeling and all fees and tips included for $81 per person.

we wanted to do a lunch, but what they offered was definitely not worth it for the quality, and we figured since were going 10-2 that you can eat breakfast before and lunch after.

he's giving us a 10% discount, and if your going to pay in cash when you get there it will save you the paypal fee, or the cc fee on top of the exchange fee!

email me if you want me to send you the pics he sent me joda724@gmail.com

heres the info... very responsive, very helpful, and very reasonable.

Stay persistance. Thats their technique to get you to desist. Explain how important for you is having del sol. Get them to commit in an email. Another thing i did was have the photographer call himself and fight for their business.

Definatly do the Dolphin Swim.

We did Xplor and it was not what we were expecting. It was an all day event where the shuttle bus picks you up at 8:00am or earlier. We were there before the park opened so we were lucky there were no lines. The ziplining at first was great but once we got around to 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th we wanted to stop because once you've done one you've done them all and there is a lot of stair climbing to get back to the top and if you don't get there early lines with 100+ people (just like an amusement park) I think there are like 14 ziplines in total and its an entire circuit. The amphibious vehicles are controlled and on a track so you can't get that ATV experience of going fast and racing (if that's what you're looking for) If you get stuck behind someone going 20 then thats what you'll be going the whole course. The only great thing about this park was the cenotes, where you can swim and do raft paddle. So we ended up leaving by cab, after 3 hours once we went through all those attractions. They were not exciting enough to repeat any. I could not imagine staying for the entire 8 hours for the shuttle to come back to pick us up.

Headsup: When they say all inclusive drinks, they mean non-alcoholic beverages, they do not have any liquor at this adventure park.

All in all if you want a natural experience of seeing the REAL jungle and not a tourist adventure park I would suggest picking a smaller park.

We did end up redoing the ATV's with a small group and it was amazing. A couple of hours of riding your own ATV, with no speed limit and crazy twists and turns through the jungle. They also stopped off at a real cenote you had to walk through the jungle to get to and there we took a break and were able to go swimming. They also stopped off at a cave where Mayans used to use to perform ceremonies and live. Great tour I will have to find the name of the place and really reasonable price.

Dreams also offers snorkling equipment and you can do snorkling tours through the hotel. As well as for a reasonable fee you can scuba dive at the reef! Only an in pool intructional course needed before going out to the reef. I would definatly suggest doing this it was beautiful. And if you want good quality photos bring an underwater camera from home it might be cheaper than the hotel gift shop disposables.

Hope this helps for excursions! My husband and I did so much I'll just stop there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
