What are you having the groomsmen wear?

We got my FI's suit from the first link I had posted (mistershop.com). So, on that site, the suits come in sizes (you don't give measurements). The second link with the $99 suits (where they ask you for measurements) is just a site I had read about on here - I didn't order from them. Here is a link to a thread all about those suits...

We haven't gotten groomsmen clothes yet. I want the guys to wear white shirts and tan or beige linen pants. I left this job to my FI. Hopefully the guys have clothes to wear by the time we leave. :)

I'm just wondering if that leaves enough time. What is everyone's opinion on this? I just want to make sure that we leave enough time for photos.
Sunset will be around 6pm when I am there and Ana suggested my wedding be at 5pm so that's the time I chose. I have been wondering the same thing about there being enough time for photos. My ceremony should only be 20 min so that should leave enough time. I might decide to get some pictures with my FI before the ceremony (that would be okay with me).

Apple Vacations is also letting us apply to free rooms how ever we want. We have decided to total up the amount saved and apply a discount to all of the rooms. It will only be about $150-$200 per person but it is better than nothing! I thought that this was the only fair way to make sure everyone benefited from the promotion. We are also receiving coupons of some sort... not really sure about those. We booked our rooms in August before the resort opened so maybe that is why we received the promotionhuh.gif?

In fact, I originally started inquiring about group rates with Hagen Sommers, the resorts group representative and he was the one who told me about the promotion knowing that I was planning a wedding. Why would the group sales rep offer it to a wedding party if it did not qualifyhuh.gif? I believe I still have his original email with this in writing.....huh.gif
I talked to my TA about all of this yesterday. He told me that because my wedding is in their peak season (February), I probably wouldn't be offered a lot of promotions. He also said that we booked everyone individually instead of doing a group booking because it ended up being $200 pp less to do it this way. So, I guess that is why I didn't get a group promotion. Everyone who booked also got a $200 resort coupon. I am not sure what those can be used for?? We also booked our trip in August and then most of our guests booked in October and November.

WOW that is REEAAALLLLY great that you are getting that promotion! I was happy with what I was getting but now I am jealous!!!

Maybe that was because the resort wasn't open yet? I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum that girls had looked into this and were specifically told that by Dreams that it could not be used for wedding groups, and it does kind of specify that in the terms and conditions of the offer. But, I didn't start looking into DRC until after it was open so maybe those terms and conditions didn't exist in August!

When is your wedding btw?

Laura, yes we did a group booking. I don't think we paid any more or less to do it that way (about $120 a night per person), but we had to book at least 10 rooms to start, and now we can continue to add on as we go.... I can see your TAs point about travelling in high season though. We also get $100pp in resort coupons but from what I have read online these might be kind of useless as they are more like coupons (i.e. $20 towards the spa if you spend over $100). Still, I think everyone will appreciate them and at least some will use them! I think some of the money is good at the spa, some for wine, and the rest I'm not sure.

Our wedding is June 19, 2010. Each guest is paying about $159 a night for a deluxe room. I am not sure if that is cheap or expensive?? At the time I booked it did say that it could not be used towards social groups but I don't know why they offered it to us. I do know that it was a sales rep for Dreams that offered it to me, so it is legit. My travel agent has been all over the place though.... I am not a huge fan of him and he probably messed this up! He has been the worse to work with.... he over charged my credit card $200 and then when I asked for him to credit it back he said "If you are really short the money I will give it to you".... like he was going me a favor for giving me my money back! (sorry that was random... just really annoying!!)

I looked into DJ Mannia because I've read really good reviews on them. They seem to get the party started and I feel like if I use an IPOD/docking station then I'll have to depend on my guests to get the party started and man the IPOD and unless they have alcohol in their system, lol, sad to say...it will take some time and 3 hr reception is not long at all so I'm planning on having a DJ. I emailed them just this week and they said I have to coordinate with the WC (Ana). I saw on their website that they also have fireworks...hehehe, how cool would that be after the first dance. I wonder how much that cost?!

So, I got an email back from Ana today and I learned a few new things...

I had asked her about the sound system that you could play your ipod in and how much it would cost for the reception. She said that for the reception it would be $200 (taxes included) and then $35/hour for the technician. So, $305 total plus the $180 for the reception. Yikes!! So, I had emailed a couple of DJ's that I saw on here...DJ Mania and DJ Doremixx. The first emailed me back and said that I could get prices from Ana. The second told me that it would be $650 for 1-4 hours (which includes all the music stuff plus a few fun extras). I am definitely going to go with this. I was starting to really stress about the music thing and to have someone totally handle it for an extra $150...sealed the deal for me :) I can give him a playlist if I want and he will come meet with me at the resort a couple days before the wedding if I want, which I thought was nice!

Second, she sent me a photo of a beach ceremony set-up. I am not sure which "location" this is...

I also asked her about a rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and I wasn't really too happy with her response to this. She told me that since you can't make reservations at the restaurants, we would just have to show up to a restaurant at 6pm and get tables near each other. Hmm...I would think that they could be a little more accommodating when you are having your wedding there and bringing guests to the resort. She didn't offer any other options either. frown.gif

I had also asked her about flowers. I know a few of you were thinking of going with orange as an accent color. I asked her if there were any bouquet options with orange flowers and she sent me this picture. It is not at all what I had in my head but I really like it a lot! I am not sure if this costs extra - Ana didn't say - I am going to ask her when I email her back.

Oh and one more thing...I asked her about the lights under the tables and the star lights around the deck. She said the lights under the tables are $45 each and the star lights are $200.

Fireworks would be awesome! DJ Doremixx gave me a list of equipment that they bring to the reception and one of the things listed was cold fireworks (not sure what that is, I think maybe just huge sparkler-like things). It didn't say that these were extra. I agree about the DJ getting the party started. I was a little worried about that too with the ipod.

Hey Everyone,

I suppose this is how wedding planning goes, but i'm starting to get worried and frustrated. :-( I'm having a hard time getting answers from Ana, i know she's busy and takes some time to reply, i'm perfectly okay with that. But it seems as if she doesn't really answer my questions. I don't know if it's the English and Spanish writing difference?

I'm worried about music and walking down the aisle, how to get that set up. I don't think we can afford a DJ with everything else, we are going with the Ultimate package. I'm also not sure about where to have the reception dinner. I heard that they can put a cover over the jacuzzi deck? Is this true, and does anyone have any pictures of this? We have maybe 20 people coming, will this be big enough, or would it be too small?

Sorry for all of the questions, and thank you in advance for all of your help!

I guess this is what they call the stress of wedding planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
