Can I get y'alls oppinion between desires lounge or the jacuzzi area for cocktail hour. I've been getting mixed reviews on Desires lounge and just wanted to know if anyone who has been to the resort know which area is better. Thanks!!

Desires isn't a nice enough place for cocktail if you are me!  I've seen both in person and the cocktail will be gorgeous at the jacuzzi!

Aww. Bummer. I understand. They have to have it in writing from another TA to price match or upgrade... Our room will be upgraded but only based on availability. We did get really reasonable rates... About $200/person per night for march which is peak season and I would be happy to share it with anyone if they need it to price match. quote name="LindseyM" url="/forum/thread/47576/dreams-riviera-cancun-brides-post-here-new-thread/6660#post_1636692"]

Ashley, I would love to but it has some personal information on it that I'm not really comfortable emailing.  I would just discuss with your TA upgrades based on room blocks.  That's all we did.  You can tell them what we were promised if you'd like but I don't think my fiance would want me to scan it in and send it.  I'm sorry.  :(

Evelyn,

1st of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! The pics are stunning and you look gorgeous! It looks like everyone had a blast (every bride's dream). :) Thank you sooo much for putting this review up. I loved the idea of the parasols for the bridesmaids! Brilliant!!!

I do have a few questions for you and would love anything you could answer:

1-You said you brought your own sand and ceremony things - are we supposed to bring the sand/bowl or did you choose to bring your own?
2-How far ahead of time did you give the music list to the DJ? Did you make a CD for him as well? Did you like the DJ? What was his name?
3-How far ahead of time did you request for Anel?

4-We're planning on going to Desires after the reception to continue the party. Does that get reserved by people as well or is that open to the public for after parties regardless of the weddings?
5-For the cake, when did you tell them about the upgrade - while you were there or ahead of time? Did you give them a picture of this as well or just told them you wanted a second layer?
6-How far ahead of time did you tell them you wanted the dance floor and sound tech?

7-And, yes, did you request for the dance floor to have the light effects or does it come with that? How much did that cost you (if you don't mind sharing that info)?

Thanks sooo much!!!

Some of my tips…..be prepared with what you want and theyâ€ll make it happen.  Have copies of lists of songs, or readings etc. to hand to your coordinators.  I bought personalized napkins for the cocktail hour and reception but they were left on the bar tables and hardly used.  They couldnâ€t leave them on the tables because it was too windy…I would have done without thoses. I bought chair sashes for the ceremony and they moved them to the reception chairs for no extra cost.  I had high heels for the reception on the deck and there was no problems. I also bought high flip flop wedges for later on at night.  We had the smaller lighted dance floor and it was a little tight for us.  We were 23 and all love to dance so it was a tiny bit on the tight side. My oot (out of town) bags were a huge hit!!!  Totally happy I did those.

FYI….Ana never wrote anything down when I asked her for special requests and this had worried me a little…..she got every single thing that I asked for correct.  I was super specific with how I wanted everything to look and she did it perfectly.  I was super pleased.

Things I brought down with me…..

Ceremony:

Sand ceremony and sand- bought from Michaels Craft store

Coral for the rings - bought at the dollar store

Sand dollars for the seating chart- bought at the dollar store

Bubbles and fans- party city and Oriental Trading

Reception:

Maracas- bought from AMOLS.com

Parasols for the girls- bought from Oriental Trading (loved them!!)

Cake cutting utensils- was a gift from my mom

Chair sashes- weddinglinensdirect.com

If thereâ€s any questions I could possibly answer, donâ€t hesitate to ask….This forum was a huge help for me and I would love to give back!!!

Happy planning to you all….enjoy every moment and try not to stress too much…it really is a DREAM come true….

PS.  Sorry the review was so long!!

HAPPY PLANNING!!!!! :)

Dear 7jax,

Thanks soo much. Yeah, I'm not sure at this point - my fiance has a huge family so our guest list is about 250 guests. At this point we have no idea how many people will show up so I guess we'll have to figure out this situation closer to time based on the confirms. Good luck!!! :)

I agree it's pretty ridiculous to charge per head for dinner at an all-inclusive resort.

We were thinking about renting out a restaurant for our reception to save some money, such as Seaside. But, they charge $35/pp for a minimum of 40 people in order to do this. So it's totally not worth it, in my opinion, unless you have over 40 people. We will have somewhere around 32 people. Plus, the restaurant reservation is only for 2 hours, as opposed to 3 hours for a silver/gold dinner. So now we're back looking at the wedding packages...

Regarding the silver/gold dinners:

The Wedding Guide says "Menu only applies for Dreams of Love & Dreams Ultimate Wedding Package". I guess this means you can't simply pay (add on) for a sit down dinner with the complimentary Wedding in Paradise package to save money?

Dear MR1124,

First of all, Congratulations!!! :)

90 guests is amazing. How many people did you originally invite and what kind of time frames did you use for sending out Save The Dates, Wedding Invitations and deadline for receiving the RSVPs? Thanks soo much.

Good News!! Gina emailed me back and said that she spoke to the manager and they will close the restaurant for us as originally planned and keep the reception at the Pool Terrace vs the Deck.

Dear Cbandemer,

We're booked for 9/2/2012!!! :) We just ended up emailing them, and they sent us a deposit form. From what we were told, you send them the completed form and deposit and you're booked! :) Good luck.

Are there any Sept. 2012 brides(or grooms) on here? If yes, what are your dates?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
