Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

I know, this is a problem I have too.  Since my wedding is still about 8 months away, I'm constantly second guessing myself. I just keep thinking its too early to buy some stuff, but time seems to be flying- its not that far away at all! A few things I wanted were sold out when I finally decided to order them...I've learned my lesson too : )

You're so lucky you work near a Michael's.  I've been wanting to go there but I forget as my day gets crazy busy.  I will add it to my calender b/c it seems like there are so many wonderful things to browse at Michael's.  I am so mad at myself b/c I was going to buy these gorgeous sashes on ebay and just this past weekend I came back and it's all sold out.  I hope the seller will get my colors again, it was sooo beautiful and cheap too.  Boo hoo, now I know when I want something, I need to buy it right away and not think twice.

Here is a site that sells the faux capiz curtains - pretty good price too

We should be able to use those on the chuppah right? To me, it seems like most of the brides on here chose fabric, so I just wasn't sure if there was a reason or if fabric is just a more popular choice. Do you have the dimensions on the chuppah by any chance? I could ask Ana but it might be July before I get an answer, lol. Do I dare ask how much they quoted you?

Thanks TigerLily.  I guess I don't have to worry about that part right now then.  Good to know that I have some time :)  My ta is really trying to get me to secure 10 rooms and I am having a hard time deciding if I want to get the regular rooms or the preferred rooms.  What is everyone else doing?  I have a friend who got married here and she said everyone got the preferred and it was awesome but she said that she couldn't really compare it since she didn't have anyone staying with just the premium rate.  So many details, so glad I have over a year to plan!

I honestly don't remember why we chose it in particular- I do know that there's fewer photos (doesn't matter since we're booking a separate photo pkg), no music during cocktail hour (don't think we're doing cocktail hour- having everyone meet at one of the bars and using credits toward dinners) uumm what else...no 30 minute video, and no couples massage/dinner on the beach... I'm not sure what else, probably a few things. I think it just really depends on the couple. We're on a tight budget so some of those things we could do without. We'd rather spend money on activities. And if before our wedding someone decides to give us a super generous donation (lol, ya right) we can always upgrade to the Ultimate pkg. Ana (our wedding coordinator) said you just needed to pay the $500 deposit to hold your date, then you can decide later on which of those 2 packages you want. Sorry, can't help you at all with the food, I should probably get on that, I haven't even looked at that yet. I'm hoping to have enough people so I can just do the buffet...more choices, less hassle imo...good luck!

HI ladies,  I have a new price from Ana re: the cigar roller and fire dancer prices.  After she emailed me the prices the first time Fire dancers is $800usd+11%taxes per 20 min and Cigar Roller   is $299 usd+11%taxes including 10 cigars

I responded saying:

Hi Ana,

I had read on the BDW forum from a previous Dreams RC bride that the cigar roller was $150 for the hour with 20 cigars.

If I do both the cigar roller and the Fire dancers is there some kind of discount available?

Her response was:

The cigar roller is $299 with 20 cigars

Fire dances could be $700usd+11%taxes

I think I might wait and see what it changes to in a couple more weeks.  :-/

WOW!  $300 an hour for a DJ, ridiculous, or is that average?  I've seen some folks say that they used their Ipod which is what I might do as well but it sounds like it might not be for the best using an IPOD, I wonder how well that goes over. Thank you for the congrats and the info, there is over 300 pages that I have to read up on, man on man I hope it rains this weekend, that'll help me with my reasoning to stay in and read up on what other DRC brides have done. I'm so excited I'm about to burst!!!  I can't wait til next year!!!

Hi Sarah!

My wedding is at DRC May 12, 2012, I'm sorry they already booked the first 2 weekends. They seems to book fast as when I asked for the first 2 weekends, the 12th was all they had available.  We went with the comp as our travel agent suggested. She said in the past, brides have added on what they wanted and it ended up being more affordable plus the resort will often throw in the high packages at a discounted rate if they "discover" that it makes more sense for you to go this route, which is what I'm counting on. I'm actually very interested in the gold vs. silver party as well though, let me know what you find out.

I am just joining this website and I wasn't sure that I wanted to book my wedding at DRC until I started reading some of the stuff that y'all have posted.  Our wedding isn't until May 2012 but I figure it is never too early to start planning :) I actually tried to book our wedding for the 1st 2 weekends in May 2012 but they are already booked!!! I thought for sure we could book this far out and get the weekend we wanted.  So we don't have it secured yet but we are probably doing it May 18th.  I am going to very busy reading all of the past posts. Are any of y'all doing Dreams of Love or Dreams Ultimate? I was leaning towards the Love package but now pretty sure I want to do the Ultimate. I just didn't know if it was that significant of a difference.  Can anyone tell me the difference between the silver and gold dinner party?

Thanks,

Sarah

So you are the reason that I couldn't book that weekend ;) I was really surprised that it is already booked for next year but that must mean that it is an awesome place to get married.  How long are y'all staying? We are gonna get there Wednesday the 16th so if you are still there we should meet up.  It seems so far away and I'm so excited! Hopefully time will fly by

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
