arriving onsite, i was immediately happy about our decision to have our wedding at drc...the lobby was amazingly beautiful and i loved our room. everything changed when i saw the pool area and beach. all along i've been like, "those reviews cannot be right...we're different, it's going to be great regardless of the look of the pavilion...the site can't be that bad" etc. i was wrong. here are my impressions of the site and what lead us to rent a car, drive an hour farther down to dreams tulum and book our wedding there.

.....{REDACTED}....

beach
we had the opportunity to see a wedding on the beach (the first row of chairs were not removed yet). It was a small wedding (appx. 10-15 people), but they were right on top of the guests lounging in the sun. there was an older man sitting right next to the wedding in a speed-o…just too much. the best part was when the group of drunk 40-somethings walked by (mid-ceremony) in nothing buy their bikinis, frozen drinks in hand and started to woo hoo. itâ€s just not my thing and that pretty much put the nail in the coffin regarding my wedding at drc. I cannot begin to tell you how upset I was over all of this. I remember when I first found the resort…I was so excited, it looked so perfect online.

one thing…iâ€ve read that there is a more private place to have the ceremony, but I did not see that on the beach. The beach itself is rather small and very packed. Note…the ceremony area is just off the palapa rows next to the kids swing set/slide area.

in the end, we didnâ€t even meet with ana…{redacted}....
we ended up going down to dreams tulum (we had visited once before) and met with aurora who gave us a tour. the beach site is great because itâ€s away from the crowd…there are so many options for the reception…ooh, and there is a beautiful chapel that looks like rustic mexico (I donâ€t think it even needs decoration inside). dreams tulum felt more fun and lively than drc (Iâ€m not sure how to describe it...drc was just blah) and the beach is larger. while beautiful, the resort and itâ€s wedding areas seemed so cramped and overcrowded…it wasnâ€t even at full capacity. the guests I saw (during the wedding at drc) couldnâ€t have care less that someone was getting married…they just sat there, had phone conversations, ordered drinks…it was so sad.

Iâ€m sorry to go on…I wrestled with how much I should say. this has been a great thread and Iâ€m sorry to leave it…the drc brides have been a great resource for info and ideas. thank you all! xo, tara
We were booked at DRC in April 2010. But, based on the photographs and reviews regarding the lack of privacy at the gazebo we canceled and now torn between Aventura Cove Palace and Barcelo Maya Palace (deposits on both places).

I just wanted to say thank you all for your posts. Keep them coming. The information generated here is invaluable.

Hi All,

I'm sad to hear that a few brides/grooms have already cancelled their wedding plans at DRC due to privacy issues. The only thing I think is that for those of us who are staying with Dreams, this type of response should only help us. I would hope that the resort would finally get the idea and understand how important it is for them to create an area that is private. They should not want this to keep happening. So I am remaining optimistic. :) Everything else about the resort is BEAUTIFUL! This seems like a request that with a little thought and reconfiguring the resort should be able to meet.

Just read this review on trip advisor. I've posted a paragraph about the weddings....good to read.

Review:

Atmosphere - Everyone was basically friendly and wanted to please. Some other couples were complaining about the kids.. and there are kids around, but we didn’t have any problems finding quite areas. It’s much quieter at night.. beautiful beach.. nice breezes.. They have a wedding gazebo that's quite pretty.. and they had a few wedding while we were there.. the set up and things they do a gorgeous. I would consider it for a wedding if I was planning one.

I'm with you SDBeachgirl. I'm staying positive and I just hope that everyone who decides to cancel or move thier wedding lets Ana know it's because of the privacy issue. That will hopefully get managements attention and something can be done.

I really think the resort will make some changes and accomodate those of us getting married there.

Hi ladies/gents,

I am disappointed that I am not getting married here. It was our first choice. I just wanted to let you know that my fiance and I did let Ana know why we opted to changed. Surprisingly, she was surprised! It was as if she had no idea that privacy was an issue -- or at least, that is how she sounded with us. I suggested that she look at the online reviews.

Maybe other DRC brides can let her know or direct her to some specific online reviews. Just a suggestion.

Well I, too, remain optimistic for all the DRC brides. No doubt, the place is beautiful. We wish you the best.

It's so sad to hear that people are being forced to switch resorts due to the lack of privacy for the ceremony locations! I know it's been said before, but I seriously cannot believe that this would come as a surprise to Dreams, and I cannot believe that in having the opportunity to design and build a brand new resort that this is the best that they would come up with. I'm super excited with my choice of this resort overall, but in terms of the actual wedding facilities themselves, it is rather disappointing.

Thanks to those of you who have, and who continue, to share these concerns with Ana and Dreams management. I'm remaining hopeful as well that they may realize that although it might be inconvenient, and even a huge pain in the butt at this point, a major overhaul is in order here to make brides happy! Otherwise, I fear that they are going to continue to lose wedding business to other resorts.

Figured I would bring forward "the list" in preparation for 2010! woot.gif

Hopefully the new year will bring about some solutions to the problems we've been concerend with and there are no more cancellations!!! msncry.gif

I know Christine and Brandy were supposed to be married back in November, but I don't know if they've been on here since (?)... and now a big gap until Laura's wedding in February I guess. No January or early February DRC brides?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
