Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi, just been reading through the posts for some ideas for my wedding and hopefully for some help.

I have booked a ten day holiday at dreams and have recently contacted the wedding coordinator to book a wedding date through the hotel website.

Did you all book your weddings through the hotel?

I only have 16 guests so just want a casual wedding with a meal and drinks. I have looked at the ultimate package and I’m not quite clear what it includes.

Does anyone know if they include background music whilst you have the cocktail hour/meal? (If not are you able to take your own iPod/speakers) –the website states you have hire speakers-it seems expensive to hire speakers for an iPod at $180 per hour for background music!

Can anyone recommend where to have the wedding ceremony and a time (we are getting married next year in Feb) i wanted the wedding in the evening when it’s cooler but also i didn’t want to be getting married whilst people are sunbathing around me. Where is the most private place?

Also with me only have 16 guests where can i have my reception meal? The website states there is no music outside from 11pm -where did you go after 11pm?

Does the ultimate package include table decor/bows for the chairs?

Sorry for all the questions, i have emailed the coordinator a few times but I’m not really getting a full response.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi! The ultimate package includes the Mexican trio for 45 minutes during the cocktail hour. If you want it to be more casual, you might want to consider the package right under Ultimate. I have the PDFs with all the inclusions if you want me to email them to you! You have to book the wedding through the hotel. David Carillo is the contact person for wedding reservations and he takes care of booking the package, date, times of events (ceremony/cocktail hour if having/and reception), and locations.

For ceremony locations, you will always have gawkers in bathing suits. Unless you get married in a church or a very private location, destination weddings are not private. Regardless of your location, people will pull up a chair and watch (from a distance), but the wedding staff does their best to keep people out of pictures. The gazebo is on the pool deck. They move the chairs back but there are people out there at least until 6-6:30 pm. The north and south beach locations are the other ceremony locations. I never considered having mine on the beach so I'm not 100% sure on which is preferred. We watched a ceremony on the North beach which seemed more crowded than the south? But don't quote me on that. Time: Keep in mind sunset time (in Feb, it's between 5-6pm), and you want to make sure you have sunlight for pictures! It starts to get cool(er) by 3 or 4.

Reception can be on the pool deck (wooden next to sand closer to beach), the pool terrace (concrete where people enter the infinity pool), the beach, ballroom, or one of the restaurants for a fee. I'm having mine at the Seaside Grille for an extra $1,000 USD, I know to have it at the Mexican specialty restaurant (El Patio), it is $6,000 USD. Pool terrace/deck, ballroom, and beach are included in package. Cocktail hour can be at those places too or one of the bars or around the jacuzzi. After 11pm they have a disco/bar on site where the wedding coordinator told me most people go.

Let me know if you want me to send you what they sent me on inclusions! Happy planning!

Hello Beautiful Brides!!

I am getting married June 22, 2014 and had a few questions for you all!!!

1. Rehearsal Dinner: I am having a private dinner at the Seaside Grill for 55 guests. My planner sent me the menu options for the Seaside Grill as well as the Oceana to choose from. Does anyone have experience with either? Which menu would you recommend?

2. HELP!! Outside photographer: Ok so after reading pages and pages on this thread, I am kind of panicking! I am bring an outside photographer, as well as videographer (they're the same company). I know I have to pay for dinner for them, as well as the $300, but is there more?!?! I was almost nervous to even tell Dreams that I was bringing them..but now I assume I have to buy guest passes..is there anything else I will have to pay for?? Man they really try to get you...

Thank you for all of your help!!

Hi Summer!

We were at DRC last month for my site visit. We ate dinner at Seaside Grille and Oceana and I prefer Oceana's menu because the beef in Mexico has a strange texture in my family's opinion. You're on the ocean, go with fish for sure!! The fish was delicious. For the app the crab cakes were uhhhhmazing :-)

As far as outside photog/videog, I was told as long as he stays 3 days they waive the $300 fee. I would ask your wedding coordinator to confirm this but that's what they just said in their webinar this past Saturday as well as through an email to me previously.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just in case anyone else wanted to visit before making a decision on the resort…..I recently contacted Dreams Riviera Cancun to find out if they do anything special for a visit to see the resort for wedding purposes.  Karisma resorts (Azul's, Generations, El Dorado) do this and they call it a Brides Dress Rehearsal.  Dreams told me they do a $110 per person per night reduced rate for a maximum of 3 nights and if you decide to book your wedding with them then they will refund the full amount they charged you to stay there during that initial trip.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
