Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies- I am getting married at Dreams on August 16, 2013- coming up fast! I had a few questions: 1) Did anyone get married last August? We are having a hard time deciding whether or not to have the reception inside because of the heat. The outdoor set ups look amazing but I'm afraid that I'll be too hot to enjoy it 2) Does anyone have pictures from a reception in the ballroom? We were disappointed to see that the ballroom did not have any windows and were curious to see how it looked once it was decorated. 3) We are having 70 people at the wedding and the upcharges are getting out of control. We need to decide upon decorations and flowers (which cost a FORTUNE). What would you recommend for center pieces and decorations? Do you have any pics you could send me? Thank you for all your help- wish I had discovered this board earlier! Christine

I have a couple of generic questions as my wedding is approaching in 3 weeks!

How is the dress code in the restaurants? I know what the website lists but I am wondering how it actually is. Do men have to wear pants, can they wear shorts, kids dress, etc...

Also, this may be silly, do you drink the water at the resort? Brush your teeth with it? Is it filtered, bottled?

And last, is it extremely windy there? From the pictures I have seen it looks like it is! Is it like this all the time? This will help me with a decision on how to wear my hair!

TIA!

Dress code for woman is pretty much non-existent, they let you in with whatever.  On the other hand make sure the men bring collared shirts, we had multiple times we were denied entry due to no collared shirt, the french and italian restaurant in particular.  Shoes didn't cause us any issues, for example the french restaurant they let my husband in with collared shirt and flip flops, but on a separate day they wouldn't let us in with my family member who wasn't wearing a collared shirt and dress shoes.

We did brush our teeth with the water, but we drank from bottles.  We asked at a restaurant about the water in the pitchers and they indicated those are bottled as well they just pour in pitchers for appearances.

For my wedding day it was very windy, we were getting sand in our eyes.  I had my hair up and it still didn't last the full night.

Beautiful.  It took them a while to send me the proofs as they were having internet issues due to a storm.  I sent in my selections last week, I'm still waiting for my slideshow from May 18th.

cmi1205,Congratulations!!! I LOVE your pictures!! Who was your photographer?   It's exciting to see a reception in one of their ballrooms, my wedding is on June 14, 2014 and chose to have the reception in the ballroom because I want a more private wedding and want it to end after midnight.  Did you originally choose the ballroom or was it because of bad weather? Was the music from the Desires Bar next to the ballrooms a problem during your reception?

I have so many questions to ask you, I haven't seen many people using the ballroom, or coming from Houston! I'm currently living in Dallas but have most of my guests and family coming from Houston. Do you mind sharing info on your travel arrangements? Did you use a travel agency or did you do it through the resort?

Sorry for the long message I just REALLY got excited to see your pictures :) lol

Thanks!!

Hi Ladies,

I have been reading your posts and they are all so helpful. We are getting married this August and I had a couple of questions:

-Has anyone gotten married in August? How hot would an evening reception be? I want to have the reception in the ballroom but my fiance wants the reception outside.

-Does anyone have pictures of an indoor reception, especially if you chose to have the reception inside instead of being moved in because of bad weather?

-We are having about 70 guests and the prices seem to be rising fast!! What did everyone do for decorations? Any advice as to what is worth it/what to skip? We asked for pictures/specifics about decorations and all we've gotten is a catalog photo and a price of $1500.

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Christine

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
