Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hello!! I am getting married May 24, 2014 at the Dreams Riviera Cancun! I am totally excited! I have a few questions for those who have had their wedding already.

1) Which DJ did you book?

2) Which photographer did you use?

3) Did anyone use a videographer. If so how long and what package?

4) Where did you hold the cocktail hour?

5) What time was your wedding? What is the most desirable for pictures?

6) Where did you hold the rehearsal dinner?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

i see some of you are having the problem with wanting the pool deck but not having enough people that stinks! i am having a similar problem and was hoping one of you might know the answer. when i initially put my deposit in i told them i would have definitely 50 people but i think more. they told me they would book me on the pool terrace. turns out i am looking at about 70+ people now coming and i emailed my WC and havent received a response either. i am a May 2014 bride but i am a little nervous because i know the pool terrace is only equipped to have about 50 people and i dont everyone to squished in that area. i want to make sure that i can put a hold on the pool deck and wanted know if anyone has run into the same problem? would they only guarantee it after people book thier rooms and they know there are more then 60 people coming?

thanks!

Hi TaraLynn,

Have you emailed and asked to change locations to the Pool Deck? As long as no one else has reserved it for that day then you should be fine. They go by what you put on the contact. So say if you put that you have 60 guests then they will let you book the pool deck but if you do not meet that obligation, they will move you if someone else has already requested that area. So you booked in a spot that is now too small, so I would request a change of location and hope no one else has signed a contract for that area already. They told me the same as other (I only have 35 guests) that if it is available on that day when we get there they can always do it then. But, to be sure and hold it always email the WC. This way you can plan how you want everything to look. Tables, decorations etc. You know, the fun part :) Hope this helps!

1. We used Visual Sound. I'm not sure if he is still there so I would contact the resort and they will assign you one and give you the contact info.

2. We used Anel with Adventure Photos. Here is a link to our slideshow:

3. We used the videographer included in the ultimate package. Here is a link to our video we uploaded to vimeo:

We also used StoryMix Media - Here is a link to our video trailer:

4. We didn't have a cocktail hour and used the cocktail hour credit towards our dinner. We had our guests gather at the beach bar while we were taking pictures and had the mariachi band play there and it worked perfectly!

5. This will all depend on the time of year. Our photographer helped us decide what was best based on the time of year. Our was in December so sunset was early so we got married at 3:30.

6. We didn't have a rehearsal dinner. We had a "welcome party" where we all met in the Hotel Lobby Bar.

Hi Ladies! I was just wondering.. Do the judges who conduct the ceremonys only speak Spanish? My Travel Agent has advised to me book a translator but I'm not 100% sure I want to do this.. especially if the ceremony can be spoken in English! Your replies would be greatly appreciated, thank you :) xx

1.  Our DJ was Jorge Chagoya from AVI-SPL.  The resort assigned him to us, we didn't choose him.  He was great with communicating in advance, but we weren't totally happy with the job he did by the end of the night.  It didn't seem like he had done any work on our playlist in advance - he played some songs from our do not play list, and he played some songs twice.  He also wasn't playing any of our specific requests, so we had to go ask him to start playing these, and it seemed like he just downloaded the ones we asked for right on the spot, even though we had sent him an extensive list ahead of time.

2.  We had Santiago from Adventure Photos.  He was great.  We still don't have our slideshow for some reason, but you can see our photos here:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152798401285142.1073741826.646940141&type=1&l=7be7db9bd9

3.  We had the videographer package included in the ultimate package, and are really happy with how it turned out.  You can see our video here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRv6MIAelSc

4.  We didn't have a formal cocktail hour, just had our guests gather at the beach bar similar to Savannah.

5.  Our wedding was on April 18th, and we had our ceremony at 4pm.  There was both an earlier wedding and a later wedding that day.  Santiago suggested this time to me, because we wanted to make sure we had good light for a lot of pictures after the ceremony.  He said if it's an overcast day you will lose light really fast on the beach, so it's better to err on the early side.  Most of the weddings I saw during our week were between 4 and 6 pm.  The sunset time for our date on this site was 7:08pm:  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=923&month=4&year=2013&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1 The sun started to go behind the buildings around 6:30, and it was pretty dusky by 7.

6.  We also didn't do a rehearsal dinner (or a rehearsal!).  We had a small group, and didn't see the need to add an extra event.

We did a legal ceremony, and our judge/minister spoke English.  I think his name was Pedro.  He did all of the legal weddings I saw during our week.  His English was very good - he had an accent, but everyone could definitely understand him.  You can hear him in our video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRv6MIAelSc

The lady who does the symbolic ceremonies (Linda) also speaks English.

After waiting 2 weeks I finally got a confirmation for our wedding!  My TA was great in getting them to respond.  I read their correspondence and it was a lot of wishy washy answers.  Luckily, from reading this thread, I was aware of the communication issues.

Anyway, I wanted 4pm, but that was not an option.  So we are doing 2pm on 10/13/14.  Now I get to pay my deposit.  I believe I read on here that fax was the best method.  We wanted the pool deck, but I seriously doubt we will have enough people.  We decided to do both the ceremony and the reception on the beach with no cocktail hour.

And Loripanori ~ Great video.  Thanks!  We are doing a legal ceremony as well.

Just got back from my wedding on 6/1/13 and we got hit by the tropical storm Andrea. Everything was shifted to the terrace. I had to be transfered to the front terrace by a luggage cart covered in plastic. Everyone has called me the modern day cinderalla. Even though the tropical storm flooded the hotel, trees were bending to the ground, power was going out, one guest got stuck in an elevator .......and nothing went according to plan we had the best time. My guests (the small amount that there were) said it was the best wedding they had ever been too because it was something they had never experienced.... I'll say!!  I guess we just got a lot of luck since it rained so hard & all..

The one disapointing thing was the dinner. We were originally supposed to have a private dinner in the Oceana but ended up being stuck in the front of the Italain resturant with crying babies. Boy, I was sooooo dissapointed but still made the best out of it.

If I could give you guys one piece of advice here it is:

Make sure you print all of your email communications with the wedding coordinator because they will not heistate to change it on you at the last minute. If you are a smaller wedding (mine was a total of 8) just keep in mind you will be at the bottom of the totum pole.

You also have the option to request the presidential suite for the day of your wedding to get ready. They didn't tell me this but another staff member did. Of course, with a small budget wedding (and 4 other weddings that day) we did not get it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
