Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

I have a question that I haven't really seen an answer to yet on here....

How are you carrying your dress on the plane? I would imagine most of us will carry it on in the bag. American Airlines has zero room and Im just so worried about my dress. Are yall putting it in a hanging bag, or your luggage or just going to try to lay it flat in the overhead bins?

Thanks,

Amanda

My TA says if you check in early sometimes you can hang it in the place where the flight attendants keep their things.  I am going to try to do that.  I'd like to think it'll be possible...I am bringing it in a dress bag and carrying it on.  I refuse to fold it in a suitcase.  Also I may call the air line ahead of time.

Hi KatiePerry wink.gif FYI, I am getting totally JACKED on my '6th room free' because apparently ALL rooms are supposed to be PAID 30 days in advance. I JUST found this out and my wedding is in like 4 weeks... we JUST missed the 'deadline.' It's screwy, because as guests book on their own or thru a TA, the room isn't charged yet. For my guests who booked direct thru the hotel, only a credit card number was taken, and the room price is due upon checkin. I'm trying to throw a fit with Jorge Arelle (the groups guy) right now because their terms and conditions have TOTALLY changed and now they're saying I'd only get a max of 3 nights free anyway, even though I'm staying a week mad.gif I hope they don't do this to you, or any other bride who was told they'd get their 5th room free! PS with my photog, I said "tough luck, I'm buying a day-pass for a guest who isn't staying at the resort, and if they happen to bring their own camera and take pictures, I don't see a policy against that" and they kind of dropped it, but the principle is the same, they can't really tell you that your "guests" cant take photos and they DO have day-passes 'wedding guests' who aren't at the resort can purchase! Hope that helps, I'm using the photog that comes with my package for "family photos" the week of my wedding.

Hi Girls!!   I'm getting married June 3rd.  I've talked on the phone with Evangelina a few times before and so had my travel agent, and this is basically what she has said about the packages:

They can only trade EQUAL things:

**a flower bouquet for more boutineers or a centerpiece

**cocktail hour (food and drinks) for more people at reception (food and drinks)

She said in the past maybe brides have traded stuff out but they do not allow that.  She made a big deal that the Mexican Trio is it's own entity.  If you don't want it. you don't have to have it, BUT you get nothing back for not using them.

The other thing I talked in length with her was about using outside vendors.  They are really strict about this--No outside vendors--I think the way around this with photographers or hair or makeup artists is to get them a room for the night and make them "guests" at your wedding.  The really hard one is the DJ--I don't know if there is a way around using the resort DJ.

She also told me there is no "credit" for the photots.  It's just something you get with the package, and if you choose to purchase something more, you just get the extra photos that come with the package.

After talking to her, I decided to go with the  "Love" package (the middle one) because when it all boiled down I wanted stuff outside of the Utimate Package more than the stuff in it (like music and a photo package).

I am going to "trade" the bouquet and boutineer for an extra flower arrangement on the table (I made a brooch bouquet for myself and shell bouquets and boutineers for everyone else), and I am NOT having the cocktail hour so we added 10 guests to dinner.  I am paying for the $999 photo package and still deciding between the DJ or the sound equipment).

My TA told me at the beginning if you plan it a certain way, you can spend less money on a wedding, but if you go with all the "stuff" you'd have here, it's the same inflated wedding industry prices you'll find anywhere else.  That was good advice, and she's right.  We are trying so hard to keep our costs down, so we are making as many things as we can ourselves.  Hopefully witht he "6th room free" we won't have to spend too much on our room.

I was feeling SO aggitated at first, but once I just accepted things the way they are it's been a little easier to "swallow" the pricies and find creative ways around things.  I'm a total DIY/bargain hunter so I just have been trying to use those skills where I can (dress/shoes/centerpieces/OOT bags/wedding party gifts).  All in all, it's still going to be so much less expensive than a big wedding in Sarasota, FL, and SO much more fun!

That all being said, if you want to try to see what you can get out of them, I'm all for that!  LOL.  I did try to pull the "another bride got to use..." and she basically said well that was before and this is now.  But I jsut wanted to let you know my experiences and my decision to just give into "it is what it is".

GOOD LUCK!!!  xoxo

Children under 12 are not free. I was told by my TA that they were and all of a sudden when my guests started to book--the kids still had to pay!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
