Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

This site has been such a help in all of our wedding planning thus far... THANKS!!! My faince and I are getting married at Dreams Riviera Cancun on 27 October 2012.  For you ladies who have booked already, which room category did you go with?  I was originally interested in the preferred club plunge suites but read that there is absolutely no privacy :( Any insight or help in making this decision would be greatly appreciated!  I think I'm leaning towards the master suite now but idk... HELP!!!

I sent them pictures of the type of flowers and colors I wanted on the huppah.  I actually could not find anything online that looked like they way my huppah looks on the day of the wedding but my wedding coordinator, Gina, knew exactly what I was trying to envision and she and the florist went above my expectations!  Also, I had sent them a picture of the cake I wanted.  The cake I got for my wedding did not look like the picture I sent them but they made up for it as it was twice the size and they added so many roses so I was extremely happy with that.  I also did get my hair and makeup done at the resort.  My stylist's name is Victoria and she did a fantastic job!  She has all the makeup supplies and if you make an appointment with them and send them in pictures of your hairstyle and makeup idea, they will do their best to match the look as they did for me and I was also satisfied.

To sum it all up, I did do a lot of emailing back and forth with the wedding coordinator and she has all my emails and photos she keeps a file of.  A week or two before your wedding date, she will put the photos and information all together for a big summary of the items you requested specifically and send you a copy of the breakdown including the prices you both agreed on, then when you get to the resort to meet with her a few days before your wedding, you both will discuss it one more time to make sure nothing has changed or if anything has to be added!  They recommend that you find photos that look exactly the way you want whether it be the chuppah decor, the cake, the table setting, etc...

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Yeah, that's a relief. :) I definitely know we can't guarantee a 100 people even though we don't know the exact no. of guests who will come. Out of the people we've shared that we're having a destination wedding in Mexico next year, a lot of them have already told us that they're not going to be able to make it - some for financial reasons and others b/c of the crime rate in Mexico - so I don't think it will be even close to a 100 and am actually starting to relax. We're thinking about having either a big engagement party or a big post wedding celebration at home instead to include everyone so don't necessarily need to invite everyone to Mexico which will definitely help out with our budget as well. You've already sent out your STD's right? What kind of responses are you hearing from people?

Yeah, have decided on locations. Ceremony is at the gazebo and reception in the ballroom - my fiance wants a traditional flair to the wedding so the ballroom was our compromise. I've been soo confused when it comes to color scheme...I like a new one every few days. I figure I'm going to wait till it's time to order bridesmaids dresses and will go with whatever I like based on the style of the dresses and what the girls like unless I fall in love with something before then and then they'll be stuck with that. It was a lot easier to find my own dress haha.

How about you - picked out your location/colors yet? Have you found your dress yet? :)

I think you can request but would either have to pay for the difference maybe. I'm not sure how they handle that. When I emailed her about I got a really fast response which was great.

I have Yamina. So far so good with her. Have you decided on colors or location??

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for all of your planning help and tips.  My fiance and I are getting married 27 October 2012 at Dreams Riviera Cancun.  I'm trying to decide what locations to use for the cocktail hour and reception.  What are you ladies using? Any tips or pics??

We chose the Desires Lounge - because it has AC and it was really hot outside - all our guests sat in the lounge eating and drinking while watching the mariachi band do their thing on the dance floor. When you arrive your WC coordinator will show you all the spots you can do it. We didnt like the Jacuzzi so much because we were worried people would fall in the tub, the deck looked like a good possibility but you run the risk of weather conditions.

You will also want to consider where your reception will be... We had our reception at the Seaside Grill so bringing everyone inside and then back out was cool - so they couldnt see the reception area until it got dark :)

I am still waiting for my pro photos and I promise to deliver a very thorough review for all DRC community here on BDW.

Speaking of Desires does anyone know what time it closes? And also are children under 18 allowed in? My fiance and I would like to move the party to Desires after our reception and im wondering if my 13 year old sister will be able to get in. Also curious to know what time it closes. Thanks!

Yeah we're having a fiesta/open house reception a couple weeks after we return for the people who couldn't make but also since not everyone will see our house and it will be done a couple months before we leave. Yeah I sent out the save the dates a 3 weeks ago. No one is really in contact with me just our travel agent. I felt bad because she said she knew the exact date everyone got them since her phone never stopped ringing and she had a ton of emails in her inbox. She's waiting till the 17th to book anyone though so I'll start seeing who is coming and all of that good stuff by next weekend. I've been getting mixed responses from everyone so who knows. Like I told my mom and fiance we won't count people until they have officially booked not just by them saying they're coming.

Yea our ceremony is at the gazebo as well but pool deck is what I think i'm going with instead of my original idea of the ballroom. Ever since i saw the photos on here of the setup and how pretty it looks at night I changed my mind. If the weather doesn't cooperate it will definately be in the ballroom. For dresses I just started looking at different things online but haven't gone and physically looked. The running of the brides is here in chicago next friday the 16th so was thinking of maybe going to that after the morning madness to check out some styles and materials. For colors I am going for bright pink and orange. I at first was thinking aqua/teal and pink but have made the final decision of orange and pink since it looks more beachy/tropical.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
