Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hey,

We had the fire dancers and to be they were worth every cent. $420 for 15-20 minutes, 2 dancers and the drummer and it was HOTT! Our guests were totally surprised, they let my husband to a little fire dancer 101 and it was a gr8 way to finish up dinner.  The minute they were done - the DJ kicked in and the party began.  It was a good lead in to get the dance floor hopping. :-) I think its little touches like that  that make your day even more memorable. The kids LOVED them and our guests are still talking about getting to see them so up front and personal.

Just got back from our wedding last night.  We stayed at Dreams Riveria Cancun for 1 week.  I will have a HUGE write up later on everything. So stay posted! For the most part it was spectacular we did have some issues with the staff.  Veronica was very sweet and helpful and did a great job with the wedding.  Food was good, the french place and japanese place were the best i think.  The rooms were great we had no problems there. The food for the wedding was very good also. We did have a few pairs of shoes go missing at the wedding itself, my husband had a pair of sperrys to wear for our first dance (we both wore flip flops to the wedding) and they were taken and never turned in.  This happened to my brother as well.  whats interesting is we saw the staff cleaning everything up... they were all men but when we went back to check on the shoes they were gone and lost and found said they didnt have them when we checked over the next few days. Also at checkout a guest of ours left his ray bans on the counter when we went back maybe 5 to 10 mins later the staff said they didn't have them and didn't see them. So not sure if it was the staff or others at the resort but I would be extremely careful of leaving things.  Accidents do happen but i didnt expect it to occur so often. The resort was at full capacity for the weekend since it was memorial day and even then it seemed there was plenty of room for everyone.  People do put towels down on the chairs but there seemed to be plenty of seats to go around.  More to come later...

Congratulations! I am looking forward to reading your review! Did you find it relaxing? I am torn between staying there for our honeymoon or moving to an adults only resort.

Did you get the firedancers through the resort?  The coordinator is quoting me like 800, I would totally pay for the dancers if they were under 500.

Thanks:)

Hi chrissyandrob-

Thank you soooo much for sharing! This will definitely help us out with the planning:) Do you know if Dreams offers lounge furniture?  We are considering using EW for lounge furniture.

I decided not to use Deco Cancun after reading this blog. The hotel has everything that you need. I am bringing fuschia overlays for the tables (72 in) from weddinglinensdirect.com. I ordered centerpieces and the tall lanterns from the hotel which will end up being cheaper than using outside vendor- the set up and tear down fees were a lot. I work in a high end hotel and DRC has everything you need onsite. If you want I can email you the budget. We have about 68 guests and have the Ultimate package. I did rent out El Patio for $12 pp (which was quoted to me last year but has gone up this year to $15 per person). My wedding will be just under $10K which is what we budgeted for!

I don't think they have lounge furniture, you would have to go through Deco for that. From past brides that had the lounge futniture,  I have read that they would have not had that if they could go back and change anything. I guess since everyone is up dancing most of the time???

Hi Chrissy!

Could you also email me the budget as well. I'm a little lost on trying to piece this all together and that would be an INCREDIBLE blessing!  courud7346@gmail.com

OMG!!  Thank you soooooo much!  WHEW!  I feel so much better. I've had the butterfly bubblies for weeks!  I have spoken to the resort but they didn't really have much to say to me, everything was brief. They said my wedding was on the North Beach as they have one on the South Beach at the same time but an hour earlier. I'm working with a TA and she has been a dream!  I just didn't know what to do but I'm going to speak to my fiancee and start an interest bearing account at a bank that will give us the best return. Thank so, so, so much!  We were just going to pay on it and weren't getting a response but this will be equally as easy and amazingly, we never really thought about saving the money. Go figure. wedding jitters?

For the wedding May 12, 2012, I am sorry to say you most likely won't hear much at all for another 6 mos. Or it will be spotty. They only really start responding better a few months out. And honestly, that is all you really need. Be prepared to feel nuts because there are only little things you can do in the meantime, while friends getting married locally will be doing big things for months in advance. But that is actually the beauty of this choice for a wedding--it is low key and super easy to make it spectacular!

Paying a little bit at a time is not an option with the resort, unfortunately. At least I have never heard of them doing it thus far. We gathered prices of everything via email and made choices on things based on our budget and the hotel worked with us a little to keep to our budget, and we did not upgrade much at all. We started saving up in a wedding fund account, and then we just put the whole charge on our CC to get CC points, and will be paying it off sometime in the next few weeks with our savings. You can do it! Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
