Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

You're welcome : ) I actually had no idea that Dreams had one!  A couple of my friends had honeymoon registries set up with their resorts, so I just googled it for Dreams to see and surprise! It came right up. I haven't really heard mention of it, which I find strange, but oh well. We haven't set it up yet, but I did show my FI and he liked it too so. I just hope people don't think its tacky...I'm slowly learning that you can't please everyone though. It just makes the most sense for us : )

My wedding's Dec 3rd btw~ it's slowly closing in! I'm up to my eyeballs in DIY projects, lol...when's yours?

Hi Missy- congrats on your wedding! I'm glad to hear no one got really sick. It was kinda scary reading those trip advisor reviews for a while. Hopefully they've corrected the problem?

Elevated "bathroom use" (trying to put it nicely : 0 ) is to be somewhat expected due to the different foods your guests may not used to, but being out of commission for a few days is not cool since most of my guests are only going for a long weekend...

They probably wouldn't move you into desires as I was originally offered that option however there were basketball games on at that time so I was told i wouldn't be able to play music...clearly that was out. The lounge doubles as sportsbar...it doesnt really turn into a "club" till about 10 but the ballrooms are right next to it. We got lucky. Fortunatley we had beautiful weather for our entire ceremony and pictures on the beach. We got speeches, first dances and cake cutting and everyone ate before the rain came so pretty much the dance party was moved to the ball room but it worked out for the best.

Oh and thanks for easing our minds about the DJ- its great to hear he worked out for you, seeing as how the resort isn't giving us many options... I personally don't care WHO the DJ is, as long as he does a good job keeping my guests on their feet dancing and having a good time. I know his first few reviews weren't stellar, but it seems he's improved...

I'm also curious about how to do the ceremony music with timing and everything.

Are you all writing your own ceremony or using the resort's script?  I've ditched the sand ceremony, but I don't know that I want to take on changing the whole script...

I'm unclear on that part! :(

What are you all doing for a "welcome event"?  We considered a sunset cruise at first but don't know if we want to spend that much.  A dinner doesn't appeal to us because it's an all inclusive and won't feel special but still cost a good amount.  I saw that some other hotels do bonfires on the beach but I haven't seen that at Dreams.  I'm now considering not doing an event and just beefing up the OOT bags with better stuff and handing those out at a "cocktail party" (having everyone meet at one of the bars) early in the trip. Ideas???

I'm not doing a welcome event. We only 20 ppl...so everyone will meet up that evening for dinner. Hoping that they'll pull some tables together for us. Which I've read shouldn't be a problem if you slip the manager $100. We are dropping off our OOT bags to everyones room after they arrive. (Which I JUST finished my OOT bags!!! WHOOO HOOO! I will be selling a lot of stuff bc I have left overs!) But .... The day after the wedding, we're going to treat everyone to a snorkel trip!

I am not quite sure if Deco Cancun is out of the picture yet.  Veronica said they are not approved anymore but I am still waiting for her to let me know if I can still use them since I already a contract with them.

Will let you know as soon as I find out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
