Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Missy,

Did DJ Mauricio speak English well?  Did he announce the wedding party?  How about party favors like balloons, cold fireworks, neon lights and the light up dance floor.  Did you get all of these for free since you were using DJ Mauricio?

How many guests did you have?

Thank you and can't wait to see your pictures.

You should be more concerned with the sound technician if anyone plans on using him for your ceremony music. He does not speak a lick of English so word to the wise....keep the music simple.

Veronica was my wedding coordinator and she was fabulous! It even rained 45 minutes into my reception and we had to be moved to the ballroom but we were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather all through the ceremony and all through our pictures, first dances and cake cutting. DJ Mauricio even stayed an extra hour free of charge because of the move we had to make to the ballroom.

He spoke english very well. I had 45 guests and yes, I did get the dance floor for free but to be honest its small and would have probably been too small for all of my guests if your having your reception on the deck. 45 min into my reception it rained so we were moved to the ballroom which turned out great because there was alot more room for dancing. He didn't announce our bridal party because I didn't ask him to but he did announce us coming in and he did fine. As for favors or anything else he didn't offer that but agian I didn't ask because I had already brought maracas with me. Like I said before, be more concerned with the sound technician for the ceremony. He speaks absolutely no english.

And to the brides stressed out about decor and such, less is more. Trust me on this, the scenery is so beautiful you really don't need much.  I bought the centerpeices through the resort and they came out beautifully. I brought the chair bows and table runners with me and bought 10 paper lantersn through the resort. I have 45 guests and with everything inlcuding the dj and and additional package of pictures my wedding costed under $8000. I have pictures up on my facebook, just go under my tagged pictures, i just turned off my privacy settings so you should be able to see them : http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=23442211

We are using just the technician and equip for the reception.  I guess the tech  announcing anything is out of the plan now sad.gif  I will just have playlists on our IPOD and also backup on CD's just in case.   Now Deco Cancun is out of the picture??  What the heck is going on down there?  There's no way that this could be the "norm" for all of the resorts.  Someone down there doesn't have their %$%$#   together.  48 days until we leave - I wonder what other surprises we will be in store for!  smile35.gif

Just an Idea I had if your not going to have a DJ and just play your ipod - is to hire a voice over personality type to record an .mp3 sound file - that makes your announcements - and have someone in the bridal party set it off when you enter... "Introducing Mr and Mrs blah blah blah" and then the next track to play is your 2st dance song etc

I might just do that instead of getting a DJ -

Yaaay! I am so happy to hear that your wedding went well!

I have the DJ Mauricio and feel much better knowing he was great for you guys!

Also I could only see one pic on FB but it was the best one, I bet, of him dipping you. :) So great!

Thanks for popping by to reassure a lot of us. It has been a little stressful for some people with the DJ swapping.

I am glad less is more, that is my route, I am just doing the bare minimum and having the resort do my centerpieces and might opt for a few lanterns and that is it.

I think there is a large party now in the ballroom the same night as my wedding so I hope it does not rain for us! haha. Not sure where they will put us then--prob in a restaurant or Desires or something, I guess.

I assume no one got deathly ill either from your wedding? That was also a concern in late March, so I figured I would check.

Thanks also for the heads up with the wedding tech. Good to know.

Cheers!
I leave in two weeks exactly! Ahhhh!

My wedding is on the beach along with the reception but they said they can set up the dance floor on the sand, not sure how well that will work, but my questions was, about how much was the DJ and are you able to pay him in installments?  Also, for the ceremony, how does that work music wise?  Did you use an ipod, did they provide music or what? I'm unclear on that part! :(

No one got too sick but I'll just say you will go to the bathroom pretty regularly...no matter what you eat or drink. There's more than one ballroom so no worries there. They probably wouldn't move you into desires as I was originally offered that option however there were basketball games on at that time so I was told i wouldn't be able to play music...clearly that was out. The lounge doubles as sportsbar...it doesnt really turn into a "club" till about 10 but the ballrooms are right next to it. We got lucky. Fortunatley we had beautiful weather for our entire ceremony and pictures on the beach. We got speeches, first dances and cake cutting and everyone ate before the rain came so pretty much the dance party was moved to the ball room but it worked out for the best.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
