Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Hi,

I am using Barbara Hylton and she has been quick to repsond to my guests but her pricing is MUCH higher. She did match any pricing (including my own) that you find online. Most of our guests did book outside of her because of this and I made her aware of this. The only good thing is that if you do go through your TA, you and your guests will not be walked if the hotels are over sold or if you havea ny issues, they will handle it. If you use a TA, make sure to tell your guests to do research and let the TA"s know that there is better pricing out there. She has also been cheaper than bookit on a few occasions and I knwo internet pricing changes daily- keep that in mind too....

THanks Missy! I was so wondering about that. I have no clue what any of that meant. Are those "free room" discounts offered from the resort? And did your TA tell you about them?

We have 45 guests and so with the free rooms we got it was enough of a dollar amount to pay for my fiance' and I's honeymoon suite which was $2200 and i still had $845 left which I applied to my mother's room. We also were given to free upgrades to any double occupancy room so I gave those to my bridal party. So basically our room ended up being free anyways. That may be something you want to consider just in case like Sharon said, a family member offers to pay for your room and you have to cancel it, rather than cancel it, if you have enough guests it may end up free anyways.

It took a few days after I told Ana I wanted to secure my date. She then sent me the form I needed to fill out and I had to scan the card and my ID with the paperwork. After that, I was kinda freaking out because she never sent me a confirmation email or anything! So after a week or so I emailed her asking if I was ever going to get a confirmation email because I knew the money had already been withdrawn from my account. She than emailed me back saying simply this "this is you confirmation for you date." HA thanks for the security!! Anyway I just laughed it off and hope my date is good. lol

Sharon,

I am having similar problems with destination weddings. Her prices are a lot higher and my guests are just booking through bookit. I would like to take advantage of the free room deal. Who are you dealing with and how does that work? Thanks girl!

The $300 an hour is the price the resort is charging, yes it's quite ridiculous but they made it so all the DJ's that are an approved vendor must abide by this price.  I've heard from past brides that the ipod is quite a pain since the technician does not speak very good English.  You still have to pay $180 an hour for the technician so might as well add another $120 and get a DJ:)

At first I was quite nervous about the whole not being in control and all but since I started relaxing more and not worry too much, everything is finally falling into places.  There are only two approved DJ at this time which is DJ Neri (heard he suck) and DJ [email protected]

.  I had initially booked DJ Julian Molina but since he did not agree with the resort's contract, they didn't approve him.  He had worked out a deal with DJ Edgar as a contractor therefore I booked DJ Edgar but requested for DJ Julian Molina to play our our wedding. He said that he will be the DJ but he is not allowed to bring any of his equipments except for his laptop so he will be using the resort's equipments.

As far as Travel Agency, I initially went with Destination Weddings and our agent is Barbary Hylton.  She is the worst agent I've ever dealt with.  I booked our package back in November and requested all the guests to go through her but she did not respond to them in a timely manner.  Their prices were about 500-1000 higher than other online agencies.  I did some research and found that Bookit.com had the most competitive pricing so all of my guests booked their packages through bookit.com.  Bookit also offers a buy 5 room get the 6th free so if you have a lot of guests you should look into that.  Anywhoo last week, one of our family decided to buy our room for us and so I asked Destination Weddings to cancel our room and keep our flights.  Our flights are paid in full and they were giving us a hard time about cancelling our room at Dreams.  They made us paid 90 dollars each in penalties because we are not booking the rooms with them.  Let me just say, I am more stressed out about dealing with Destination Weddings than dealing with the resort.  Beware of Destination Weddings, just warning those that are thinking about using them.

Sorry for the long email, I had to vent lol.

i had a conference call with lisabeth and feel soooo good about my wedding now.  it is not till july 19th but it was nice to touch base with her and she seems to really have her stuff together.  she has a calm personality and assured me that everything would be very nice.  she did suggest that menus/flowers/decor/cake be picked out and emailed to her 1 month before the wedding.  That sounds good to me cause then when we get there we just have to confirm everything one last time and not be tied up for hours.

i going to trust the past brides that everything will come together when we get there.  no stress, now i just cross my fingers that lisabeth will still be there in july!!!

I am also working with Lisabeth and she is great! I met her at our site visit and since she has been very good about corresponding and answering our questions via email. We even called once and she answered the phone.

I agree it is hard planning from afar but I know that it will come together January 2012!

Hi Carb

In speaking with my coordinator, an idea was that they may be able to give you the room assignments after everyone has arrived or before and you can assign one of your attendants to go and drop the bags off at the doors. Its a thought....

Ideas? Thoughts?  Help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
