Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hey hun - I think that they have all sorts.  They just happened to be the one thing that was WAY more expensive. Deco quoted me $30 and EW $140 :-s But everything else EW came in WAY under. I'm wondering if maybe the crystal "curtains" that EW have are genuine crystals ?? I don't know. I love the look too though :-) I'm actually one of brides that isn't bringing the fabric down so I'm pretty clueless as far as dimensions for the chuppah. I ordered mine thru EW also. Between the OOT bags & content, real touch bouquets, escort cards, wedding programs etc I couldn't be bothered to try and bring one more thing.  I get teased daily now on lugging the trailer load that I am  as it is LoL

We should be able to use those on the chuppah right? To me, it seems like most of the brides on here chose fabric, so I just wasn't sure if there was a reason or if fabric is just a more popular choice. Do you have the dimensions on the chuppah by any chance? I could ask Ana but it might be July before I get an answer, lol. Do I dare ask how much they quoted you?

What I did was I read the first 50 pages and then I skipped to page 400 and on.  Once you finish reading everything, you can go back to those pages that you haven't read.  There's definitely and abundant amount of information on here and you will get more creative reading this blog in regards to your wedding.

The $300 an hour is the price the resort is charging, yes it's quite ridiculous but they made it so all the DJ's that are an approved vendor must abide by this price.  I've heard from past brides that the ipod is quite a pain since the technician does not speak very good English.  You still have to pay $180 an hour for the technician so might as well add another $120 and get a DJ:)

At first I was quite nervous about the whole not being in control and all but since I started relaxing more and not worry too much, everything is finally falling into places.  There are only two approved DJ at this time which is DJ Neri (heard he suck) and DJ Edgar.Cardoso@avispl.com

.  I had initially booked DJ Julian Molina but since he did not agree with the resort's contract, they didn't approve him.  He had worked out a deal with DJ Edgar as a contractor therefore I booked DJ Edgar but requested for DJ Julian Molina to play our our wedding. He said that he will be the DJ but he is not allowed to bring any of his equipments except for his laptop so he will be using the resort's equipments.

As far as Travel Agency, I initially went with Destination Weddings and our agent is Barbary Hylton.  She is the worst agent I've ever dealt with.  I booked our package back in November and requested all the guests to go through her but she did not respond to them in a timely manner.  Their prices were about 500-1000 higher than other online agencies.  I did some research and found that Bookit.com had the most competitive pricing so all of my guests booked their packages through bookit.com.  Bookit also offers a buy 5 room get the 6th free so if you have a lot of guests you should look into that.  Anywhoo last week, one of our family decided to buy our room for us and so I asked Destination Weddings to cancel our room and keep our flights.  Our flights are paid in full and they were giving us a hard time about cancelling our room at Dreams.  They made us paid 90 dollars each in penalties because we are not booking the rooms with them.  Let me just say, I am more stressed out about dealing with Destination Weddings than dealing with the resort.  Beware of Destination Weddings, just warning those that are thinking about using them.

Sorry for the long email, I had to vent lol.

Thank you for the congrats and the info, there is over 300 pages that I have to read up on, man on man I hope it rains this weekend, that'll help me with my reasoning to stay in and read up on what other DRC brides have done. I'm so excited I'm about to burst!!!  I can't wait til next year!!!

karina  [karina@decocancun.com]

Gabi Lavor [glavor@planner1events.com]

I had quotes from both and I find Deco Cancun a tad bit cheaper.

Good luck

Just to give everyone a heads up as to how the free rooms work or at least how it worked for me....my travel agent said it was more like a dollar amount that they give you per room to apply. We have 45 guests and so with the free rooms we got it was enough of a dollar amount to pay for my fiance' and I's honeymoon suite which was $2200 and i still had $845 left which I applied to my mother's room. We also were given to free upgrades to any double occupancy room so I gave those to my bridal party. So basically our room ended up being free anyways. That may be something you want to consider just in case like Sharon said, a family member offers to pay for your room and you have to cancel it, rather than cancel it, if you have enough guests it may end up free anyways.

And also, just an FYI for any newcomers...Don't even bother checking out  the first pages of the thread because nothing thats been promised to previous brides still stands. There is a whole new wedding department, one that I find alot more efficient than before, however there have been new rules put in place and it seems that there sticking with it.  I would suggest going from the last post back, that way you'll get the most accurate information. There are new vendor rules put in place, new prices, etc. Any post prior to 2011 pertaining to anything the resort has promised...don't waste your time. If I remember correctly, it was probably around the 1st of the year when alot of changes were made. I'm just trying to save ya'll time because there is alot of information to sift through. If your just looking for ideas for your wedding, like colors, reception set ups, etc. feel free to browse but if your looking for prices and whats allowed and what isn't I'd take my advise.

Hi! I am new here. Hoping to get married at Dreams Riviera Cancun in November 2012. I spoke to Ana and they have the date open however, I have been waiting for her to reply to my email with the paperwork so that I can send my deposit. I have read this thread all week so I have learned that she is quite slow to return calls and things like that, but it's just an email!  She didn't get my first email so I called her this morning and she said resend it, so I did and she confirmed that she got it while I was still on the phone. I was wondering how long some of you had to wait to get your email from her?  I guess it's just my nerves already haha. The thought of planning a wedding so far away is a bit stressful but after reading so many great reviews I know that it will all be wonderful!  Thank you!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
