Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hey Lily,

I just got an email back from Ana. I asked about the outside vendor fee for ew cancun & she said it's $55. I was going to bring them in to set up the lanterns. But then i asked if i brought lanterns would the resort set them up & she said yes. So I'm not bringing any outside vendors in.

I'm sure they hate that there's websites like this- imagine if we didn't have fellow brides to compare things with? They'd rob us blind, lol. I honestly just don't understand why they don't have a set price list, like black & white, this is the way it is and these are the prices...frustrating to say the least.

Does anyone know what the current outside vendor fee is now?? I know its been discussed several times, but they're so back and forth, who knows. I think I recall being excited since it dropped from $500 to...$50? Am I making this up? I can't remember...

Hi ladies!

I'm getting married here next May 12, 2012!! YAY!  But I've been reading all of your post and I don't have any info on outside vendors for entertainment, the cost or anything. I've only been at it a month and haven't really recieved much feedback from Ana as its early on plus she is mostly talking to my TA, would you all happen to have any info that would be informative and helpful? I'm so excited that I've been planning this far in advance so I can get to a point where we are just paying and waiting to leave with all details settled. Thank you!

Congratulations you gotten the hardest part out of the way, now for all the fun stuff.  I suggest reading this whole blog, it's extremely informative and it will answer most of the questions that you have.  As far as the outside vendors and entertainment; things might change in a few months but right now they are charging 55 for an outside vendor fee but they must be an approved vendor.  As far as DJ goes, there are two approved DJs as of now and they charge 300 an hour.  As you're reading along, most of the past brides will say, don't worry too much b/c everything will fall into pieces as you get closer to your wedding date.  Have fun and Good Luckjiggy.gif

Thats exactly what I did.  When I told them that I would only be using their fire dancers instead of dancers and decor, they said "it doesn't suit them" .... as friggin if right??

I promptly dropped the entire contract and went with EW Cancun - who beat them on EVERY competitive price with the exception of the crystals that I wanted hanging from the back of the chuppah.

Thanks Winter...my wedding's in Dec so I have some time to decide, but I honestly don't think I want to deal with the hassle of bringing in vendors either.

Congratulations! Sharon summed it up pretty nicely..there's ALOT of info on these threads, so take your time and read through it. Things are constantly changing with this resort, but again, as Sharon said, almost every single bride gives the same advice when they return- don't stress, cuz they're professionals and your wedding should be a blast!

When I first started looking through the threads, my head was seriously spinning from all the great ideas I found. I was totally overwhelmed! I started a "wedding inspiration" folder and everytime I saw something I liked or read useful info, cutting and pasting I went (along with the link). It's helped me alot- I'm sure everyone does it differently, but I didn't want to forget all the great ideas I came across--good luck and have fun planning!!

Melissa, EW offers those crystals? I love those Capiz shell curtains (like Sandals uses w/ their Martha Stewart DWs)... I've been searching online where to buy them. I found one website that seems reasonable but they're sold out. I would much rather rent them than purchase since I'll probably never use them again (although I guess I could sell them after).

We should be able to use those on the chuppah right? To me, it seems like most of the brides on here chose fabric, so I just wasn't sure if there was a reason or if fabric is just a more popular choice. Do you have the dimensions on the chuppah by any chance? I could ask Ana but it might be July before I get an answer, lol. Do I dare ask how much they quoted you?

Ugh! Thanks Sharon, frustrating to say the least! Anything is better than that ridiculous $500 fee they tried to charge, so I'll take $55-$65 any day. I'm really thinking that I won't use any outside vendors, but we'll see. That's how I'm feeling today anyway!

I believe the outside vendor fee is like 55 or 65, I forgot.  I find that it's not just the resort that is inconsistent with their pricings it's the outside vendors too.  I was getting a quote from Deco Cancun and they are quoting me so high compared to one of the past bride from here.  I wrote to them and they said b/c the person that was there before made a mistake and she is no longer with them now.  In general, I believe the whole country does not have a set price, they can set whatever price they want and it is damn frustrating.

Congrats Sarah! I'm doing the Love package...my fiance and I looked both over and we decided Love had everything we needed. I honestly don't remember why we chose it in particular- I do know that there's fewer photos (doesn't matter since we're booking a separate photo pkg), no music during cocktail hour (don't think we're doing cocktail hour- having everyone meet at one of the bars and using credits toward dinners) uumm what else...no 30 minute video, and no couples massage/dinner on the beach... I'm not sure what else, probably a few things. I think it just really depends on the couple. We're on a tight budget so some of those things we could do without. We'd rather spend money on activities. And if before our wedding someone decides to give us a super generous donation (lol, ya right) we can always upgrade to the Ultimate pkg. Ana (our wedding coordinator) said you just needed to pay the $500 deposit to hold your date, then you can decide later on which of those 2 packages you want. Sorry, can't help you at all with the food, I should probably get on that, I haven't even looked at that yet. I'm hoping to have enough people so I can just do the buffet...more choices, less hassle imo...good luck!

I am just joining this website and I wasn't sure that I wanted to book my wedding at DRC until I started reading some of the stuff that y'all have posted.  Our wedding isn't until May 2012 but I figure it is never too early to start planning :) I actually tried to book our wedding for the 1st 2 weekends in May 2012 but they are already booked!!! I thought for sure we could book this far out and get the weekend we wanted.  So we don't have it secured yet but we are probably doing it May 18th.  I am going to very busy reading all of the past posts. Are any of y'all doing Dreams of Love or Dreams Ultimate? I was leaning towards the Love package but now pretty sure I want to do the Ultimate. I just didn't know if it was that significant of a difference.  Can anyone tell me the difference between the silver and gold dinner party?

Thanks,

Sarah

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
