Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies, My wedding is May 7th and we leave May3!! 3 months away now! : )  It's great to hear that DRC is finally working on their communication issues, its gives me some hope but I have to say that I haven't been a bride that has emailed the resort a lot, in fact, I haven't really emailed them at all.  My whole trip and contract has been set up my awesome TA.  but in the past 2 weeks I felt that I should start getting the details together and I really wanted to know about this whole DJ issue and the $500 day pass.  Well its been over 2 weeks now and NOTHING! I got a email telling me "Please allow me prepare a resume about your wedding and we can see all the details" and that's it.  I don't understand what kind of resume she's getting together since I haven't decided on any details other that my locations for the wedding day.  It's really frustrating because I feel as though I've not "bothered" them in all theses months, over a year now, since i decided on DRC and I'm still not getting any kind of response.  I would really like to have a final budget together by the end of this month.

Ok, thanks for letting me vent! :-/

I was just planning on writing a note because today I spoke with Veronica from Dreams and she was so lovely and we powered through a lot of details and solidified a few things and clarified some others, and it really made me feel much better about the whole thing. None of the WCs up until now has made an effort to actually speak to us on the phone and to clarify so many things early on like we just did. I feel really good about her and about Dreams as our wedding location.

At less than 4 mos out for our May 14th wedding, it was really nice to connect with her and get some of my bridal worries put to rest. I have been planning and working with Dreams for over a year now, and it has been unnerving to have so many changes take place with staff and DJs, etc. Also to not hear from them more than just an email here and there has been really tough on my tendencies to fret and worry about details and plans. But today I feel like I got some time to work out some things and was taken care of nicely and professionally and I am really pleased.

I am going to put my trust in all the reviews on here and in the past brides and their terrific advice, and I am going to feel confident that everything is going to be great. Even if there are a few bumps here and there, that is the nature of weddings anywhere, so I am not going to freak about it all. I am just going to do everything I can on my end to be really organized and have all my emails and price quotes and info ready to go so that we know we did all we could on our end, and the rest is up to the universe.

I hope this little note helps make people who are just starting on their wedding planning with Dreams feel better about the lack of communication that happens at first. It gets better. Trust me.

I can't wait till we leave May 11th!

Cheers everyone!

Haha.  She was very organized when we spoke and she remembered (or had in front of her) everything we had previously discussed in emails.  She was very sweet and easy to communicate with.

Here is what we discussed:

We will have the garden chairs for the ceremony (on the beach) and the covered banquet chairs for the reception (on the deck).  Plated dinners (not buffet) and what menu (we haven't chosen yet - oops).  What I wanted to do about my bouquet (you can choose any of the bouquet options for your package and change the colours of the flowers) and bridesmaid bouquets ($90 each for the ones I chose - sigh).  Round or square cake and do I need flowers for it.  DJ (and the doremixx situation), times for ceremony and reception to start, cocktail hour location and food choices (we aren't doing one - gets too expensive so we are sending everyone to the lobby bar).  We can have 6, 7, 8 or 9 people at each table - we don't have to choose or let her know our seating chart until we get there.  My hair and makeup appointment times (2:30pm - our ceremony is at 5:30pm).

I can't remember what else but that's how it went, to give you an idea!  I had to rush off the phone as she had caught me between patients.  So brides, have no fear!  I'm jumping on lcraney's bandwagon and putting my trust in past brides' reviews and Lisbeth... I'm sure it will all work out beautifully and either way I'm getting married and going on a 2 week vacation somewhere hotter than here! WOO HOO!

I am glad to hear that some people are beginning to have better communication with the resort WC's, but that seems to be on a case by case basis depending on who you have as a WC.  We have Ana and are having long delays in responses.  Oh, and by the way, our wedding is in less than 3 weeks (Feb 20).  If it weren't for all of the reviews stating how this is basically par for course, meaning that communication is horrendous up front and then they miraculously pull it all together in the end, I would be worried.  Sigh…why does it have to be so difficult?  But I guess I have to remember that one of the reasons that we chose a destination wedding was so we wouldnâ€t have to plan for months and months and months.  We are arriving on Feb 16th, so hopefully we will have plenty of time to put it together.  If they would just resolve this darn DJ situation!

Anyway, 19 days and counting.

We're doing foot jewelry for the  beach and heels for the reception on the pool deck. Chair covers were incl.in our package but I didn't want them - just the sashes.  We're using DecoCancun for our lounge furniture, centerpieces, chuppah decor, ceremony aisle florals and reception lighting though :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
