Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

I received an email responding to my complaint from the Director of Sales...this is what it said:

"Dear Sarah:

Is in our best interest to exceed your expectations  in your wedding date, thereforeI would like to inform you that we have renew our contract with our vendors  / outside service providers, and here is the list of the approved vendors as of today, we will keep you posted any update:

Approved vendors:

Flowers:  Fressia & Glayde

DJ´s:  Visual sound  & AVI Sound System

Musicians:  Mariachi la Diferencia / Trio Caribeño los selectos

Video:  Blue Channel

Photographer:  Adventure Photo

Furniture & Décor: Pending

Our main concern is satisfaction & safety, this is why we have listed our approved vendor list, you will be getting some benefits and most important a responsible and qualify vendor for your important event.

If you have contacted a vendor and it is not listed here, there is 2 ways to solve this, either can renew his/her contract or pay $ 500 US fee for one time visit, please let me know if I can be of further assistant or you may have any question."

Since they didn't specify that we couldn't use Doremixx I did reply and asked if I could pay the $500 for Doremixx or DJ Mannia.  I also asked why $500 - I understand their should be some sort to fee to bring in an outside vendor but I'm not sure what the $500 is for??!!

I asked them to send me the websites for the two DJ's they listed - I want to make sure I can get the same services as they had with Doremixx!  I think it needs to be an even exchange!!  Ya know?

Of course I ended my email with how disappointing it was that Doremixx was no longer on their list - how all of us future brides are very saddened by the news!

I'll let you know when I hear back!

Congrats!!

I can't wait to see your pictures and read your review!!  I appreciate you sharing this with us!!

Can you tell me what your timeline was?

Did you give them music for your ceremony as well?  If you did - did you just put each song on CD?

Where was your reception located?

Thanks again - SO MUCH!!

I gave him our wedding timeline and he was wonderful. Late Thursday night I got a voicemail and email from him informing me that the resort had canceled him as my DJ b/c they want to use their own in house DJ.

The wedding coordinator did not call and let me know this. So the next morning I went down to their office and complained. It really isn't the wedding coordinators but the banquet manager, Walter, that has canceled the contract with outside vendors. I was so incredibly upset and kept being told I would have to wait until 3pm to speak with him (mind you --the day before my wedding!!!) to see if he would make an exception for me to still use DJ Ivan. After having to stop by the office multiple times, luckily, the banquet manager made an exception in my case and we were able to have DJ Doremixx without having to pay an outside vendor fee. I would definitely exercise your bridezilla voice in this instance b/c the DJ really does make the party, and I think Dreams is making a huge mistake not keeping the contract with Ivan.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Ivan and the job he did at our wedding too.  All of our guest from young to old, were on the dance floor the whole night and having the best time of their lives! He brought balloons, masks, and cold fireworks, and did just a fantastic job keeping the party going. Literally everyone who came to our wedding (55 people) said that this was the best wedding they had ever been too ever!! Ivan also connected me with Daniel Santos Servin who preformed with 2 other firedancers at our wedding. It was so incredible. It was the most amazing time ever. Even though we paid to extend the party an extra hour, I wish we would have paid to extend it an extra 2 hours because everyone was just having such a great time.  I will post pictures soon and a full review but just wanted to confirm that this is something happening, and by all means you should complain.

I would be SO mad if I had them booked...I for sure would want for something in return for the inconvenience!!!!!!!

That is awesome..we have to keep complaining..obviously something happened because we can't even pay for them to come in from the outside.  We just have to keep emailing so they have no choice but to settle on an agreement!!  It's terrible..I just can't believe they would take something away completely..not a good move.

It has to be fixed!!

We all know their is no way their DJ will be like Ivan!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just returned back from our site visit...I read up on what is going on there before we left.

Most of the violence is at the border..in the resorts you have nothing to worry about.  What the article's said was not to go any where alone..especially in the dark, not to wonder places you aren't familiar with...very commonsense stuff!  It also said that you would be affected by the violence in the resorts on the coast just as somebody in Chicago would be affected by an earthquake in California!!  It'll be just fine!!

I would raise ALL HELL if I were you.  I swear if it was on my contract I would tell them they have to honor it.  It's a legal contract..they have to honor the brides that are already involved!!  How can they do that to you???  Ugh..I'm SO upset for you - our wedding isn't for another year and we were pumped about having Ivan..I can't even imagine the hell I would be raising if it was on my contract.  I might even contact a lawyer - I'm pretty sure the have to honor it!!  Seriously..what a bad move on their part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how the hell can they not honor it?? Clearly this is a new policy but that in no way diminishes their responsibility nor obligation to the brides that they have ensured these services to. I swear if our wedding wasn't just over 3 months away, with 40 people booked and a wedding logo that read DRC, I would cancel the whole thing! It's starting to make me sick at the thought of even giving them our business. It's been one headache after another. With the amount of oops, unprofessionalism and nickel and dime'n they do, it's insane that they are as popular as they appear to be. I so took the pp advise and sent a strongly worded email with the written confirmation attached to my WC. This is bloody ridiculous :s Ivan I hope they get this str8. We were super excited to have you. I guess that's my vent for the day :s

I was dealing with that drama from the family in laws too. But I did a lot of research and was double reassured from my TA that it was not a problem what so ever and she had no problem sending us there in a heartbeat.

Our wedding is July 17, I am curious as to when I need to decide on the DJ and photographer?  I emailed Veronica but her response was she is busy with January weddings currently and she will answer all my emails and concerns in February.  I enjoy all the past brides step by step preparation before their wedding, it definitely paint a better picture for me.

Hey everyone! I am getting married here in May and I'm seriously starting to stress out!!! I apologize if all of these questions have already been asked. There are just so many different threads I do not even know where to find the answers! Any help would be greatly appreciated! 1. Do they offer colored fabric for the beach ceremony and chairs for an additional price? I have read people are bringing their own fabric and that seems so complicated, however, I want a colorful ceremony! 2. Do you pick the officiant before you get there or are you just paired with someone the day of the ceremony? 3. If the reception is on the deck by the pool, do any of you know if lighting is included? I originally wanted it in El Patio but apparently they are charging a ridiculous amount to close it for private events now (I'm extremely sad about this). 4. The spa hair and makeup, has anyone heard any reviews? I think that is it for now! Thank you in advance for any information!

Hi! I hope this helps:

1. They say they don't have colored fabric for the arch on the beach (if you're using that), other than white. But if you purchase material and bring it down with you they will set it up for you. If you use their chair ties I believe they charge  $5.00 a chair for use and they aren't guaranteed to have the colors you desire, however you can also purchase those cheaper (e-bay, weddinglinensdirect.com, etc) and they will tie them on for free. I bought table overlays and chair sashes since they didn't have them in my colors, and they took up very little space in the suitcase.

2. We didn't pick an officiant, we were paired with a woman. If you have certain vows you want to say and aren't doing a legal ceremony then you can give a copy to your wedding coordinator and she'll pass it along to the officiant

3. Our reception was on the deck, I'll try to find some pictures to upload for you.. the lighting was good for us because we had hired DJ dorremix and he brought lights, and the pool is lit and I believe the resort also sets up some lights. However the eating area can be a little dark - I bought floralytes and water storing vase fillers (http://www.soilmoist.com/products/decobeads.php) and had them put them in my centerpieces which helped light the area up.

4. The woman who did my hair and makeup was fantastic through the spa, however of the 5 other women who had their hair done there 3 of them ended up re-doing it in my room prior to the ceremony :( Make sure you bring a picture of what you want for them to work off of for  your hair and makeup. Also, even if you set up your hair and makeup appointments before going to DRC stop by the spa and reconfirm them when you get there. Supposedly the wedding coordinator had set ours up, and the day of the wedding the spa told us we had no reservations

Hi ladies,

How disappointing to hear about the resort not contracting Doremixx anymore.  That was one of the selling points for me in choosing DRC.  I really hope they rethink what they are doing.  If they keep this up  it might end up affecting their business.  They have no idea how much influence places like this wonderful forum can have on their behalf.  I'm getting married October 28th and as of a few days ago, everything is booked.  Well, except for the actual wedding details that the WC doesn't want to go over until a few months before the wedding.  I'm trying not to stress.......

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
