Sandals GOR - Outside attrations and travel

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of foregoing the Resort offered transportation to Dunns River Falls and the shopping area in favor of catching a cab with my group and going ourselves. Does anyone have any experience with something like that? Is it cheaper to do the outside events ourselves? As of right now, its about $30pp to go to Dunns River and $15pp to go shopping through the resort transport. I figured in a group we could save on the transport from a cab. What do you think?

We caught the party boat. That was $75pp. We got to go snorkling on way back and that included the cost of Dunn's River. When we got there we have a tour guide and they made a video of our group. The video cost 40.00 (we did not get it). After we got back we would have had a better time by walking outside the resort, and catching a cab. We could have gone shopping at some of the places and also some other things. Just be careful. I heard it can be dangerous. Don't put all you cash in one place, don't flash it when you take it out, and take lots of small bills because everyone wants a tip. This includes the bus driver, the people that take your bags to the bus, the people that give you your wrist band at Dunn's River...EVERYBODY!!! be aware and prepared!!!

Hi, we just went to Dunns river falls 3 days ago. We stayed at Sandals DR, and paid 40$ pp which included transportation and the guided tour. It was awesome. We saw people walking up by themselves (they paid 15 pp) but I would not recommend it unless you've done it before. The tour guides are hillarious and really make it fun. We bought the video too. A word of caution about this place...EVERYONE wants a tip or donation. As soon as we entered, a guy started carving my name into a wood head and told me he would give it free, then wanted my husband to pay 25$ for a matching piece. We gave him 10$. The inside vendors are very aggressive and will not leave you alone. They even tried to steal our key so that we would not get the $5 deposit back. There is a guy with a donkey who lets you take pics (this poor animal is covered in flowers) and then demands a donation. Be sure to have plenty of ones and fives and do not be conned into buying anything that you don't want.

We had to tip the tour guids 20 each, because that is all we had. I think 10 would have been sufficient since that was part of the package price.

Dunns river was a great experience. Definitely do that!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
