Hi everyone! We ordered our social tickets at Labelle's today!! YAY! They were very reasonable: 100 tickets=$15.00, each additional 100=$3.00 each. So 500 tickets is costing us $27.00 and he'll have them done by the end of week!

Question about food: Would ordering pizza be cheaper than doing the traditional rye bread/kulbassa/cheese/pickles route? I know it would be easier!

Also, how much should I expect the alcohol to cost for 400 people?

Thanks for the help!!

we just had our social and our hall held 355 - the alcohol bill came to $2200 (68 units) so yours would be slightly more than that. It also depends what alcohol you choose. We ordered food for 170 and it cost us $200 from cantors with tax. It was the traditional social food. Rule of thumb for food is to order half the number of people you expect to show up-anything else just ask I think I may be a social pro from helping plan 2 of my friends and just mine!!

Thanks for the info krayzeekitty!! I've heard anywhere from $2500-$6000 for alcohol. Obviously some of my friends have high quality taste in booze. We aren't drinkers, so I don't feel the need to buy anything fancy! I really want to focus on prizes, that's why I go to socials! We just got a great deal on a BBQ, so that's one grand prize down!!!

I'd love to hear prize ideas from everyone out there!!!

We just had our social a few nights ago on Halloween...we got booze for 400 people...it came to $2600. We got 2 kinds of beer, Wiser's rye, Captain Morgan rum, Smirnoff vodka and Bombay gin for selection.

We had 21 silent auction prizes that ranged from $150-$200 each in value and then 3 Grand prizes that were over $500 value each...we did really well in ticket sales that's for sure :)

My mom and grandma ended up making all the food (perogies, cooked 2 big turkeys, buns and cold cut trays amongst halloween treats and dessert)

I must say I'm really glad it's over...a lot of work and stress over all the people compared to the small intimate 30 person wedding we are planning.

Good luck to all of you yet to have yours :)

Silverangel: how did the hot lunch go over? Did you charge extra? I've been to a couple socials with a hot lunch and hardly anyone ate at one,and the other ended up with a big mess on the floor!!! What were the most popular prizes?

We won a Wii at a social a few weeks ago, but since we have one we thought we'd use it at ours. Are they still popular? We thought we could accessorize it with the stuff that ends up costing tons, like extra controllers, docking station, a few games and the sports packs. What do you guys think? Is that an okay Grand Prize? (It was solo as a grand prize when we won it!)

We are using a Wii as a grand prize too and adding extras like Guitar Hero and controllers etc. I think it is still an okay prize. It was a toss up between that and one of those small laptops, but we got a good deal on the accessories so we went with the Wii.

No we did not charge extra...the food went so well the line up was crazy and I didn't even get a bite! The perogies were the first to go of course :)

We also had a Wii that we paired up and it was still popular even though I thought most people would have one by now...

Another popular prize believe it or not was a dual flush toilet! EVERYONE wanted that one (it was $300) but we got it donated and had it just as one of the regular prizes.

A lot of people were excited about our Texas mickey auction... We sold the regular arm's length tickets for $5 and you could win a texas mickey of crown royal, a 66 oz of Bombay Gin and a 26 oz of Tequila...(we took a pic of all 3 bottles) It went over really well!

Yeah one of our friends is a rep for a bathroom supply company huh.gif or something and his work gave him 70% off and he paid the rest...I don't know much about toilets and didn't think anyone would want that as a prize but supposedly they are the new thing and energy efficient so it turned out well!

Hey guys - just thought I would give a shout out, as I am officially a Winnipegger now (after 3 yrs+ years here), I was new to this idea of socials and found it a little weird at first but its a tradition here - if my FI and I were from here we would probably do one, but I really think you need a big team effort to pull them off right, and our whole family and majority of our wedding party don't live here. Congrats on being done Silverangel, do you think it was worth it in the end?

I just went to one on Halloween, I one a prize - of 30 scratch tix + some other junk (literally I want to throw everything else out lol). I couldn't believe I only won $20 on 30 scratch tickets ahaha, but I broke even for the night. I think lotto tickets with better other prizes would be good (as it was none of the stuff was related at all, there are like ugly golf shirts and a model car in it). One of their grand prizes was a Wii, they were charging $5 for ONE grand prize ticket (is that standard?) - so I'm guessing they made lots of $$ haha. I think Wii's are still a good prize, not everyone has one yet. If you got it for free then that's awesome! Pizza would be pretty sweet at a social, although I would miss the pickles. Another social I went to they were giving away a trip to Mexico or something, it sounded sweet but it was only for 1 person...and it was leaving like the next weekend...so the person who won didn't use it. I think spa packages are always a good prize too...Also, I think it would be cool to have like a photography prize if you know any photogs who might be willing to give you a deal or something...

Anyway, I am clearly procrastinating from studying...so back to work for me! Keep us updated with the planning :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
