Need help with how to get my hair/makeup done

Recommended Posts

I will be cruising and port in St. Thomas at that time we will be getting married in the morning. My only problem is I want to get my hair done and makeup. My WC on the island can do it but there really is no trial run since I port and then get married. I know I dont want to do it myself because I know I will do a horrible job. To those ladies who are cruising than porting what did you do or anyone have any suggestions? I know for my AHR I can find someone here to do my hair and makeup but no clue what to do for my wedding day.

Is there a salon on at the port or on the boat? I think a job is always best with professionals.

If not, and you have your WC do it, I would 100% have a photo of what you want. If you leave it up to a description, then she can interpret it differently than how you meant it, but a picture shows exactly what you want.

You can also have your make up done professionally at a make up counter and have them take the photos of you, this way you can purchase the colors that look best on you and provide them to the WC with a pic of you wearing it. Most times this is free if you purchse x dollars of stuff from the counter.

I will also be cruising and having an on island wedding in St. Thomas.

My WC suggested I book on the ship with the salon as soon as I board. I am going to try and speak with the hair dresser a day or two before, maybe even a trial run. As for makeup, not sure if they do it on the ship, I still have to look into that. If not, I will be going to a makeup artist for a trial, maybe even lesson...if it's simple enough maybe I can pull it off myself.

My WC told me most of the on island hair dressers and makeup people want you to book a room in one of the hotels to get ready, which I really don't want to do for just an hour.

I'm sure if your package includes hair and makeup, they are reliable people, but you may want to get references, or pics of their final work.

I absolutely agree that you should have pictures of exactly what you want either way!

I agree with Erika. I would say get a trial hair and makeup run at home and take tons of pics. That's what I'm going to do for my hair at least. For my makeup I'm going to get a makeup lesson at MAC (take a million pics) and then buy the products and do my makeup myself. Have you ever thought of doing it that way? Or getting a friend or family member watch the lesson and do it for you the day of your wedding? That way you can practice in advance and make sure that everything will be perfect!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
