Bridesmaid who just had a baby...How do you pick a dress size! HELP!!

Recommended Posts

I am hoping that someone else has been in a similar situation and can give me some advice here. I just found out my niece, who is one of my bridesmaid's is pregnant and will not be able to attend my DW Wedding. I am sad that she will not be able to come, but am totally ok with it and super happy for her! She has been trying for a long time.

My problem is with her dress. I am having an at home reception shortly after we get back and she will be able to attend that. She will still need to buy a bridesmaid dress, but have no clue what size she would be. The reception will be one month after she gives birth, so I am sure she will still have some baby weight on. And she doesn't want to get the dress before she starts showing because she thinks it will be too tight to wear after giving birth. She is totally already stressed about dress shopping and we haven`t even looked yet! How do you know what size to buy when you have no idea what size you will be!

Has anyone else had this problem and how did they go about dress shopping?

I would appreciate any tips or suggestions on this! :)

Thanks!

That's a toughie. It really depends on how much weight she gains during pregnancy since even with breastfeeding she won't be able to lose a ton in one short month. My sister only put on 35lbs so she was able to get back down quickly but my mom put on almost 70lbs with my older sister so you never know!

I don't know what type of dress you were wanting for the bridesmaids, but if you get like an empire waist dress that flowed freely down and wasn't tight, you would only really have to worry about the bust area which should not be too hard to gauge (maybe 1-2 sizes up from where she is now). Would that work?

this happened to my friend...she ordered 2 sizes larger than her pre-pregnancy size. That way if she needed to get it taken in, it wasn't a big deal. She ended up just wearing it as is...I say order larger, it's easier to take it in than it is to take it out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
