Why Jamaica

Recommended Posts

Im just curious to why out of all the places in the world. Why Did everyone here pick JA? U read reviews on how there's so many sexier , better places to go for a DW... I know we picked JA because we wanted something green yet oceany (if oceany is a word =) Something a little bit closer than Hawaii... Something that has romance written all over it.

What was everyone's big thing when picking the perfect resort?

Ours we had to have a huge pool, We wanted all inclusive no headache wedding vacay honeymoon.. Something gorgeous all wrapped up into one. Something kid free aswell. I figured if we aren't taking lil man.. we shouldnt have to deal with other lil mans as well =)

Oh wait, I just realized I didn't even answer the question!

We wanted an english island where we didn't have to translate any of the legal documents to another language. Also, no one's been to Jamaica yet, so we all wanted to have a great experience on the island that everyone's heard so much about!

It doesn't hurt that the grass flows freely down there either. :)

My criteria for our DW resort - not in any particular order:

1 - Kid friendly - I have a 12 yr old, and we have guest who have children much younger as well. I didn't want to have to spend my vacation making sure my son was entertained.

2 - Must be accessible with a direct non-stop flight from Chicago and preferably Detroit as well, since we have many guests flying in from the suburbs of MI.

3 - Reasonable flight time - I was looking at Hawaii, but I knew many guests wouldn't even consider a 6/8 hour flight. Wanted to keep the flight time under 4.5 hrs if possible.

4 - Easy marriage requirements. Didn't really feel like doing a blood test or having to fly in 4 business days ahead of time to deal with paperwork.

5 - Preferred an AI so it was easy to budget for both us as well as our guests.

6 - Resort needed to have availibility on May 5 - I refuse to change my wedding date.

7 - Beautiful beach since that's where we want our ceremony.

8 - Not ridiculously expensive.

So in the beginning we started out pretty much open to anywhere warm on a beach. I looked at Turks & Caicos, Costa Rica, Domincan Republic, Mexico, Aruba, the Bahamas, Bermuda - you name it, I looked at it. And after sorting through tons of resorts, we just realized that while Jamaica was not the most exotic (and FI was opposed in the beginning because I had been to Jamaica with a previous boyfriend many times) it fit everything that we were looking for.

We'll do something more exotic for our honeymoon :)

Hi

We looked for 3mths. We had Mexico picked but then the swine flu! We both loved the look of the resort and the reviews were all positive! Neither of us has been to Jamaica. The crime was the one thing we were hesitant on sad.gif I wanted Hawaii but too long for children as well as Fiji! I can't wait for this resort.

One of the main reasons is that Jamaica is the first trip we took as a couple. While I was open to other places, in the end Jamaica is a pretty inexpensive trip from the US in comparison to other islands and we wanted it to be affordable to our guests. We ended picking the resort because it was the perfect combination between that All Inclusive feel with tons of activities, but small enough that our guests would take up the majority if not all of the resort and ours would be the only wedding on that day. Jamaica may not be the sexiest of locations but you can't beat the hospitality of the people.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
