Topsail Island / Beach???

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!! I'm already married (Maui, Hawaii 05-28-09), but you guys helped so much with the planning of my wedding, that I thought you might be helpful in helping my family & I choose a new summer vacation spot on the east coast. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct area, but it seemed like the likely place to post. Anyway, we usually do one of our yearly vacations on Tybee Island off the coast of Savannah, but my feeling is that the world is too big to vacation at the same spot year after year, so we are begininning our search for a new beach on the east coast. I came across something in the news about Topsail Island (North Carolina) & wondered if anyone had ever heard of or been there. We don't like a whole lotta hustle & bustle (that's why we enjoy Tybee), but we do want the option of being close to the hustle & bustle; abundant restaurant choices are a must (as I DO NOT cook on vacation:) You ladies are great; thanks for any input.

I could recommend Sullivan's Island, SC. it's where I am getting married- it's very low key, yet 10 minutes from Charleston which has a ton of shopping and touring and GOOD food. The beaches are never super-crowded and there are no giant high-rises or hotels on the beach. Just a suggestion!

ETA: downside might be that they don't allow alcohol on the beach

Hi! I'm from NC so we'd go there a whole lot. It's a very small quite town, you won't have too much hustle and bustle around. Your close to Wilmington so there are restaurants there but I can't think of any supberb choices right in Topsail (haha pronounced topsol for some strange reason).

PM me if you have questions. It's a great little place. Check out the Outter Banks too. It's lovely there.

Thanks for the Sullivan's Island suggestion. We don't drink so the issue of no drinking on the beach wouldn't actually be an issue :) Do you know if there are many private rental homes that have private pools?? That seems to be more prominent in NC, but I wonder if it's avail in SC?? That is something that we def want; a private pool & a hot tub. Actually SC might be a better fit for us b/c I would think it would be a bit warmer than NC during the 1st week of June. I will have to go google Sullivan's Island. Thanks & good luck with your wedding Mandy!!

As far as the Outer Banks, we have always wanted to visit, but the timing never seems quite right. We usually do our east coast vacation either the last week of May or the 1st week of June & I've been told it's still chilly in the Outer Banks & you def can't get in the ocean that time of year. I'm not sure I believe that going south just down to Topsail would make a diff, but I'm told it makes a diff of about 10 degrees in the air & water temp. Any ideas if thats actually true??

Thanks again girls for being so helpful!!!

Not really sure who said that but they must've gone during an off year! It's is anything but chilly/too cold. It's actually a perfect time to go before our sweltering and humid July and August begin.

NC and SC have almost identical weather on the coast...hot, and muggy during the day and stormy at night. I've personally never noticed changes in temp in the water from to OBX all the way down to Charleston.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the beaches though. It's all great. I would look into Hilton Head too-esp if any one in your family likes golf.

NaM,

Thank you for your input on the OBX, we may just have to give it a whirl this year, b/c like I said, we have always wanted to visit; I hear it's beautiful. As far as Hilton Head, we use to do Hilton Head before Tybee, so we've been there done that, time to move on to another beach :) Thank so much for all your help; I truly appreciate it!!!!!smile03.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

I love topsail island!

It's a great family vacation spot. We went with a rather large group a few years ago for a wedding and had an excellent time. We were there in September so it was much less busy than I assume it would be in the summer. There were about 14 of us and we rented a house on the beach for the week.

Here are some pictures from the area that I have.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
