Need help picking a location, leaning towards Dreams

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I will post my reviews of Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal and Maya/Lindo later. They were beautiful hotels, but just didn't feel right to me for our wedding.

Here's what I know I'm looking for so far:

*Located in Mexico

*Gazebo that overlooks the ocean/beach

*Wedding area clear of beach chairs/rental boats/etc.

*All Inclusive

*Kid friendly, but not overrun by them!

*Hotel that specializes in or is known for their weddings

So far I am really leaning towards Dreams Cancun. The pics from Sarah and Edyta's wedding at Dreams Cabo were so beautiful! But if I remember correctly Cabo is more expensive than Cancun. If you picked Dreams Cancun over Dreams Cabo (and vice versa) why? Also, if you have any other ideas for me I'm all ears! I was pretty bummed that our site visit didn't turn up my dream hotel, but I know you all will be able to help me on this. Thanks in advance!

Ha! Bitten by the Dreams bug!! lol

I haven't been to Dreams Cancun before, but I have been to Dreams Tulum before, and it was really nice. TO be honest, I haven't seen to much pictures of Dreams Cancun, only a few that the ladies here have posted - so I'm no help there. Same with price. I guess I'm just posting because I feel the need to post in every thread!! lol.

Honestly, when I was at Dreams Tulum - it was really nice. I mention the kids club there every time I talk about the resort because they've done a really nice job of it (and I'm pretty sure it's similar between Dreams resorts). It really helps to keep the kids out of all the other guest's way.

Anyways, I'll let the Dreams Cancun brides chime in now...

I was planning on Dreams Cancun before we decided not to have a DW. I did have a ton of info but I cant find it sad.gif Must have deleted it all! Ill keep looking though.

I loved the idea of Dreams Cancun because of the gazebo right on the water. It was so pretty looking and far from the guests. Also the WC was really helpful!

Jaime - you are back!

Congrats on your engagement!

I chose Dreams Cancun because, in the grand scheme of things, it's closer to us, yeah we are still far, I know. I am closer to the east coast than west, so we looked kinda on this side. I have been to Cancun and loved the turquoise water.

I do think the hotel in Cabo looks amazing and all the wedding photos I have seen are just gorgeous. Since I have not been there, I really cannot compare the two. They both meet your requirements :)

Happy planning!!!

Hey Sabina, do you have a wedding packet or something like that from them? Also, have you been there? Does anyone know how the rooms are? From Trip Advisor they don't look so great or very updated... The ones in Cabo look way more modern and nice but also more expensive.

Jaime you're back!! Congratulations on your engagement!

The gazebo at dreams sold me, I fell in love with it!

Our original choice was cabo, but coming from the east coast it was going to be less expensive for us and our guests for flights and cost was a factor for guests, so we chose cancun instead.

I just read some really good reviews on dreams cancun.

Susan & I think Leigh have both been to dreams so they can fill you in more on the rooms. I didn't think the rooms looked too bad.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We've also posted a lot of dreams cancun info on the site, so you'll be able to find a lot of the information in those threads too!

Good Luck!

Jaime did you see this? Are the majority of your guests coming from Texas? I guess Cancun and Cabo are both equally easy to get too.
Christine, I did see that link, thanks. And yes most of my guests (with the exception of some family in Boston) are coming from Dallas. I haven't really looked at a map to see where Cabo is, and I've never been to that part of Mexico before.

I guess I should also point out that nice rooms are important to me (I think I've gotten kind of spoiled in this department cheesy.gif). I think if I could choose between the two, I would pick Dreams Cabo - my concern is that it will be a lot more expensive for our guests...

:Standing on my soapbox:

As always, it's not about your guests- it's about you! If you love Dreams Cabo, go for it- those that want to be there will. It's probably a matter of a couple hundred dollars a person, maybe even like $500 for a week- in the grand scheme of things that's not a huge deal. People that will pay $2000 for a trip will probably pay $2500. I'm just throwing out numbers, but trying to put it in perspective. You will be amazed how your guest list will change- it has happened to every single bride on this board, and it's usually drastic whatever way it goes. Some expect 15 guests, but get 50 and vice versa. PLEASE don't make a decision based on your guests- no matter what the location!

:off soapbox now:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
