Moving Job locations- what would you do?

Recommended Posts

There is a position (lateral move) in my company in another office 30 minutes away. Knowing I am only going to be here for another year, I am wondering if I should take the position. WHY? This is a smaller office with only 1 other coworker to "deal with" though she is nice and would be no trouble. Anyway, the downside is the extra 30 min drive (hour a day) and the gas I would use. I thought it might be a nice change from my recent stresses. I would also have more time (slower office) to do wedding planning- lol.

What would you do. Do you think the extra 30 min drive would be worth the serenity?

Personally I wouldn't do it mostly because I hate to drive. Driving an extra 30 minutes each way would be really hard for me. 20 minutes is too long :), but I say whatever makes you happiest. It is nice having more time at wedding planning, but the drive would make me stay at the first place. Good luck with your decision.

How much slower of an office is it?

Break it down a little more:

30 minutes x 2 = 1 hour per day

x 5 days = 5 hours

x 50 weeks (factoring in some vacation)

250 hours over the year

Will there be traffic? so will that 30 minutes become 45 minutes?

How much more gas will you use a week than you use now?

Will you accomplish that much more wedding planning at work to compensate for all of that car time?

PLUS

Do you really want to make another change right now with all of the other changes you've been through lately? You've been through a lot - it might be good to keep the job you've had as the one constant in your life.

Those are all very good points, girls. I needed someone to show me both sides. I should probably stay where I am- but things in this office aren't exactly "constant" right now anyway. It's in such a mess, I just want some sort of stability back. Luckily there is no traffic, it's a long country road, which could be daunting come winter sad.gif

ughhhhh.

part of me also wants to distance myself from my long-time coworkers so it won't be so bad when I move away.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
