Riviera Maya 2010

Hi everyone,

My name is Annette and I am getting married may 1st 2010.

I am trying to decide between the H10 Ocean coral & turquesa and the Catalonia Riviera Maya.

I have just heard from my wedding coordinator that the 1st May is a mexican holiday so they can only do symbolic wedding ceremonies!! I hadnt thought about this much before although I was getting a little annoyed with all the "requirements" for a legal marriage. Any thoughts? Are many of you doing symbolic vs legal, and are you doing the legal part before your mexican wedding or after.

Congratulations & welcome to the forum!

To avoid all the hassles, we are doing a quick legal ceremony in Canada before leaving. We're still considering our wedding abroad the "real" wedding and the one in town our "legal technicality" :)

We're also keeping the legal wedding hush hush.

We're also planning to do a quick legal ceremony here in Minneapolis before we head down to Mexico. We'll count the date in Mexico as our "Real" wedding date. And we aren't going to tell many people that we did the legal one here. We did the math, and because you have to be in Mexico three full business days before the wedding, it would cost us over $1000 to do the legal ceremony there. It's WAY cheaper to do it beforehand (if you can find someone to do it for you - we might have a friend register on one of those websites where you can become an ordained minister. I think it would be really fun.)

It shouldnt be too much trouble to get married there - depending on your resort. I have done some research (although I am not an expert). This might sound weird but can you get married on May 2? I know May 5th is a holiday...is the whole week a problem?

I found out that all I need is my passport, birth certificate and we do blood tests at the hotel a few days before the actual wedding- it costs about $200.00We do have friends here that have done the "secret" ceremony at home before the trip but now they have to lie to eveeryone all these years later.... I didnt want to do that. I know many people do though.... I guess it is a personal preference.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
