I came across a photog last year out of CA that had a special for 2009 brides. If they paid for four nights for herself and her husband (also her assistant) she would give each bride her entire $7,000 package for free!! I thought it was a great deal and wanted to use her but DH didn't like her work as much as the photog we chose. sad.gif Her name is Sarah Maren and she has a great personality! I don't know if she is still having the special but it doesn't hurt to try!

I agree with Jess -- start sending out email inquiries to photogs whose work you love, remember it must be LOVE, lol. wink.gif

Also keep watch for BDW photography vendors on here who will periodically offer contests that include free services with their travel/lodging fees being paid. Their have been some super lucky members who won these contests and ended up with AMAZING pics!!

I actually lucked out and got my photographer for costs only (engagement pics, welcome dinner, wedding day, and day-after session included) ~ no way in a million years would I have ever thought I could get such a GREAT deal. So believe me, it always helps to ask around and inquire. The worst they could say is no, but all you need is one yes and good contract to go with it wink.gif

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I have done a bit of searching for photogs myself and while it seems like although there are some photogs that do this, I did not come across many! However, I agree with other posters that it doesn't hurt to ask. The main reason that photogs will do your wedding for a reduced fee, or for travel fees only, is because it's a portfolio builder. Most often they may have a lot of photography experience but are looking to break into the destination wedding market. If you can find a photographer that you really like but they just happen to not have much destination wedding experience, you might be able to get yourself a great deal! It is hard though, and a bit of a risk, because from what I understand destination weddings can be an entirely different animal from a regular wedding to shoot (in terms of lighting, elements, etc.), so you have to make sure that whoever you choose is up to the challenge!

i found that i had a lot of offers like this when i went to a local bridal expo. photographers would come up to me, i'd tell them that i was having a DW and they'd freak. there are times if a photographer is trying to build up their portfoloio in a particular area (DW, boudoir, etc.) that they will offer discounted packages or special deals. like some of the other girls said above, it can't hurt to search around and ask! good luck with your search!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
