Question for anyone doing the legal part at home

Recommended Posts

We are doing the same thing. Go to cityhall to spare all the neccesary documents you'd need to bring with you if you were doing it legally at your destination spot.

And for whoever asking if its vow renewal no..you're just going to ask for the symbolic ceremony..hope that helps :)

We're going to do the legal part in our livingroom with just 2 people (Moh and BM). Afterwards we are taking our wedding party (-2 in another province) to a restaurant for a "happy going away party". We love to go to dinner with friends so this will seem like another Friday night to us. Just what we want!

It does not affect your passport at all. We had our legal ceremony a month before our DW and I just waited to do all the name change stuff until we returned from the honeymoon. You actually have to do quite a few things to legally change your name. The marriage license is just the document you need in order to get it done. However, do keep in mind that if you sign your new name on the marriage license with the new name eventually you will have to go through and get your name changed with all the relevant agencies (DMV, SSA, etc.). I've read on here some people have had trouble later when they didn't and I actually had a friend who had some problems filing taxes (as married) because the name associated with her SSN didn't match her married name on her tax form.

Anyway, you won't have trouble on the honeymoon with your passport so dont worry about that. smile29.gif

Glad I found this thread. I had envisioned doing all the legal stuff away in Mexico on the wedding day. Then I read up about all the blood tests & necessary documentation and it seems like a headache. I think you girls have convinced me that doing the legal stuff at home is the way to go. I'll probably keep it small and simple and just go to city hall.

we are having a church ceremony/legal part before leaving to Mexico. It only be the two of us plus the priest and a witness is necessary. We really aren't telling anyone about it since they would all want to attend. It may sound mean but the whole point of a dw is to have people watch you get married "away".

We were thinking on the same lines as you and your FI. We are not even going to give my MOH and BM only but a few days heads up...just so we know they won't tell anyone:) How far in advance should we consider going to City Hall??

I'm in the same boat as you ladies. After realizing that my fiance couldn't get a copy of his birth certificate (don't ask, too complicated) we figured it would be so much easier to have all the legalities done in the States. My concern with that is that our city hall is so blah, nothing nice about it at all. I was even thinking about having a tiny ceremony in our church with just our parents, just need to know if our priest would do that. I don't think there would be a problem with that. Has anyone else had it like that?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
