DJ Mannia - First Review!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to let everyone know that I had Carlos (DJ Mannia) at my wedding at the Paradisus Palma Real on July 23, 2009, and he was AWESOME. I spoke to him in the few weeks leading up to the wedding, sent him a playlist (you don't have to do this...he has a huge list, but I'm a little anal...), and we discussed payment. I arrived in the lobby a few minutes before we were supposed to meet and he was already there. He told me this was the first wedding he was playing in the DR and that he'd already come on-site during the week to look at the space. The wedding coordinator also told me that he had called her discuss everything.

So anyway I sat down with Carlos and he had my playlist printed and he had highlighted things and made notes all over it. He told me there was one song on there (I had like, 200 on the list) that he was not able to find. Turns out I had the wrong artist on there and he had another version that was almost the same. Then, at his suggestion, he played the father/daughter dance on the computer (Tori Amos - Winter) so that I could make sure it was the right version.

The day of the wedding he came with his associate, Alex. Alex came up to very subtely me a few times during the wedding to ask how I wanted certain things sequenced, when I wanted the dinner music to end and start dancing, etc.

In the end, Carlos went mostly off my playlist but did add a few songs that were big hits. I gave him a "do not play list" that included pretty much any cheesy wedding songs, group dances, etc. Funny enough he had asked me at the meeting what to do if someone asked him to play a song that was too wedding-ish, and I said "tell him the bride said no" and started laughing. Well sure enough during the party, my friend Danny came up to me and said "I need your permission to play my song! The DJ won't play it!" and started laughing.

I have to say I was totally impressed with DJ Mannia. I expected some problems with food, setup, timing, etc, but in my opinion, bad music can totally ruin a party. I can sometimes be a bit of a New York snob (ok, I totally am), and coupled with being totally anal, I find fault in pretty much anything. Yes, not good qualities, but its important to know that, because I could find no fault in DJ Mannia - he completely lived up to my expectations. I got so many compliments on how great he was. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

This is a wonderful review!!

Does he play at other resorts? How did you find him? Do you have his contact info / prices?? This is my one fear for our wedding (Jan 2010) that there isn't a decent DJ we can use. Did he introduce all your dances etc for you?

Thanks!

Yes I believe he will play at all resorts in Punta Cana - I had read about him a long time ago when I was deciding where to book the wedding and I noticed his name a lot on the Cancun boards. Then months later I saw a post with his name saying they were going to start operations in the Dominican. I'm pasting the prices from the email he sent me. I wired him half upfront and paid the rest in cash when I saw him. He does do the introductions and he actually really got the crowd going. I was nervous that he was going to mess up the songs (I heard horror stories about the first dance being the cake cutting, etc), or that I'd need to have a friend introduce everything. I didn't want to worry about anything and I didn't have to :)

The price for the Dj service is $750 usd and includes:

Audio equipment

Professional Dj

Dj booth

Wireless microphone

Robotic lights

5 hour service

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
