Engaged in front of Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center on my birthday!

Recommended Posts

Sorry this is the long version :)

My fiance and I traveled to NYC to celebrate my birthday. We had a nice 3 day 2 night trip with my birthday falling on the Saturday. Little did I know, that weekend was much more important than I thought!

It wasn't all romantic and fun though... I got the 24 hour flu 10 hours before we had to leave for the airport. I was the most miserable travel day I have ever experienced and my poor fiance had to take care of me (including disguising that I was getting sick on the train to the airport, on the plane, in the cab from the airport to the hotel, you get the picture :)

After the 14 hours of misery we were settled into the W hotel Times Square. I would suggest that anyone who heads to NYC to stay there. Very contemporary and fun! Plus the sea food restaurant was amazing (yes I actually craved sea food even after my horrible experience the day before!).

We spent my birthday traveling all over Manhattan starting with Canal Street. We bought some fun Christmas gifts for our moms and ourselves. Next, we took the subway up to Central Park for lunch at the Trump Tower and a little window shopping (Tiffany's and FAO Schwartz). Then, we took a fun carriage ride around the park, walked through the rest of the park that we didn't see on the carriage, and visited the Central Park Zoo. We stopped by Rockefeller Center on the way back to the hotel and noticed the giant line for ice skating. We decided to stop back after dinner.

We cleaned up and headed to an amazing dinner at our hotel. After dinner, we got all bundled up and headed back to Rockefeller Center. By now it had started to snow. We noticed a spot right in front of the ice skating rink where you could get a professional photo taken with the tree in the background. So we decided that's what we'd do when we were done skating. We had an hour and a half to get through the line and done skating before the photographers quit, so in the line we went. It only took an hour and 15 minutes to get through the line so it was a quick 15 minutes on the ice. Neither of us fell so that was amazing! Nate had never been on skates and the last time I was on ice was 14 years ago!

We raced to get our skates off an into line. We were the last ones in line! We got to the spot and the photographer took the first picture. Nate asked her if she could take another and as he finished asking he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said "of course I will marry you!". The photographer continued to take photos so we have these moments saved forever.

That wasn't the end of the weekend either! The next day we hit up the museum of Natural History and the Empire State Building. It was a jam packed and exciting weekend! I don't think I mentioned that he carried the ring around all day long because he had no clue when he was going to propose.

Now every Christmas when I see the the Rockefeller Tree on NBC I will remember the amazing weekend I had there where my life was changed forever.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
