Help! Is this dress to big/heavy??

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies!

I bought my dress in March, and had my first fitting this week - it is Brielle by Maggie Sottero (pics below). I'm now starting to freak out a bit about it, worrying that it is too big and heavy for a destination wedding. I'm worried I'll be so hot in it that it will ruin the wedding for me, and also that I will look silly in photos because it is so formal (the groomsmen are wearing linen pants and white linen shirts with sandals, etc). Also, I really want to do a TTD, and don't know whether this dress is appropriate for that. I have NO PROBLEM ruining the dress - that doesn't bother me. But I don't want the photoshoot to be ruined because the dress is too big/heavy/inappropriate. Please help!!! Should I buy a second dress, or is this one okay?? I love it so much but am soooo nervous now...

If you love the dress, go for it! I think no matter what we're all going to be hot in these things, even the shorter, lighter ones, but we're not going to be thinking about the heat much! You could get a second dress for the reception or after-party so you don't stay as hot and can move around better.

As far as being too formal- many many many many many destination brides wear much more formal attire than the wedding party. i wouldn't recommend a 7 foot train or anything, but this looks fine!

I think it is perfect. I had the same issue.. too poofy, too big for destination and then with some help and re-assurance from this blogand the great brides, and re trying it on.. it is perfect!!! You have to love it and you look really happy in the dress and also who cares.. it is your wedding day! wear what you love!!!!!! Im doing the same thing and grooms men are wearing the same attire as yours.. but the bride and groom are the stars of the day you will look beatiful and stunning and I love it! As for the TTD it is perfect!!! follow your heart!!

First of all you look GREAT in that dress and if you love it you should wear it!! Ive seen destination brides with more "formal/bigger" dresses than the one you have and it totally doesnt look ridiculous. I think you will be so excited that the heat wont be an issue for you. Definitely wear it if you love it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
