My other suggestion, once you go get your makeup done, is to PRACTICE!!!! If you aren't used to wearing makeup, especially things like face makeup/foundation, you need to work on putting it on correctly. Same thing with eyeshadow, liner, etc. Whichever counter you go to, they should give you a "map" of what color they put where.

I just got my face done at the Chanel counter by some superstar makeup artist - this dude was AWESOME!!!! I cannot even believe how flawless he made my skin look! he did amazing eye makeup too, but i couldn't look at it and tell what he did, so I had them map it for me. Soooo helpful. And I will practice....and go to MAC and Bobbi Brown before I'm through!

Oh my gosh! I have a guy at the Chanel counter at Macy's near me that I just want to pick up and carry around in my pocket so he can keep it up through the day like he does it!

I still prefer MAC's colors over Chanel though.

I agree with jerseykitten!!!

I'm a make-up artist myself, and the first thing I tell my clients that are doing their own make-up (or hair) for a big event, is to PRACTICE! With make-up you might want to write down what you did, because on the day of, your nervous might kick in and you will sure to forget something.

Also for sure go to MAC, etc and pick their brains a bit!

Yeah, like clarisse mentioned just be careful of shimmery (and some even say mineral) makeup which can make your face look lighter in photographs. I was researching good makeup to wear during a wedding and almost all sites said this.

Oh this is great.....I had no idea that shimmery make-up washes you out in pictures. Damn!!! I love shimmery make-up too! When it gets closer to the date I am going to do a make up session at MAC. MAC can be expensive so I think I will just get the foundation and stuff there and get similar eye shadow at a less expensive place. Oh and the lipstick too!

Another thing too is to know how to apply it, Mary Kay has different shades for different places on your eyelid so its so easy to apply and it always looks great- I have been applying my makeup like that forever and so many people ask me how I do it! - Also if you go to the makeup counters have them not only put the name but have them actually put the makeup on a face card for you that way you can match when you are at another store!

Oh and for warm humid weather I love maybeline mousse and all over color sticks (you can use both on eyes/cheeks and lips)

You can generally make an appointment for a make-over for a pretty minimal cost (free to up to $50) and then the cost can usually be put towards cosmetics. That way they usually give you a bit of a lesson and can recommend colours for you based on your wedding colours. Be sure to mention if you plan to be a little tanned or if you need products for skin that may be a little more dewy (from the heat/humidity) and they can advise you.
Good luck!
I've seen others post this idea as well, and I really think this is some of the best advice I have found so far on this forum! I had been stressing over having my make up done at the spa at the resort and who knows how's it's going to end up, but now I'm going to make an appointment at MAC at least a few months ahead of time and that way I can practice and tweak things as needed.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
