How much do you tip your non-wedding hair stylist?

I'm in NYC and my hair stylist is expensive - $240 for highlights and glaze. I only get it done about once every 3 months or so.

I went last week, and tipped $30. I think I usually tip $40, but for some reason on Friday I thought that was a lot. I also tipped the shampoo girl $7.

I'm now thinking that I left him too small a tip.

I'm curious - how much do you pay your hair stylist, and how much do you tip (both the stylist and shampooer)?

$240!! That seems crazy expensive! I go to a very nice salon and pay about $120 for a cut and highlights for half my head. My hair dresser is the owner, and I dont think you normally tip the owner, although I'm not 100% sure....I will usually tip her around $10...lol maybe i'm being cheap with the tippinghuh.gif any other thoughts on if u tip the owner?

I know, Meghan, it's totally expensive. But he does such a good job. I tried the salon where I get my hair cut ( I go for my cut at a place that specialized in curly hair) for highlights and they were atrocious.

I have read that you don't tip the owner, but I think I'd feel uncomfortable not tipping. But that's just me - I think I have a tipping problem - lol!

I think I've read that a salon tip should be 15%.

AHHHH...NYC prices! Luckily I'm in Jersey... I think the last time I got highlights and cut/blow out it was $150. I gave my hair stylist $40 and 6 to the girl that washed my hair.

I think you're supposed to tip 20-30% to the stylist. I'm never sure how much to give the hair washer - sometimes they do more, like take out my foils, and wash it several times, so I give extra.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
