I cannot believe you agreed to repay the alternation... why? It's their mistake!

I wish you the best and I am sure in a few years you will laugh about it and concentrate on the good memories of your dream wedding!
Honestly I paid for it because the money wasnt that important at the time. As long as I had my perfect dress, I would have paid a lot more than 50 bucks. But we ended up getting the second payment back too.

Yeah it was kinda funny. The page they printed off wasnt even complete. It was just my original post, and the right side of it was chopped off so you couldnt even see the entire sentences. I guess they may have been too embarassed to print off all the replies :) hahaha

well for one, I felt like I was shopping at a place like Ross because the dressing rooms stank and there was gum on the walls.....not exactly a fun bridal experience...2, on the way out the door I found an adorable dress on the $99 sale rack but had had enough dress shopping for one day. I kept thinking about it and called DB back to ask about the dress and she said it was a sample dress and their store was the only one that had it. I was actually calling for a style number and the managers response was "it only came into our store so dont even bother looking for it anywhere else"......um, excuse me? I wont go there or reccommend it to anyone else either..it seemed cheap and dirty, and all the employees were rushed...the dresses also felt terrible quality.

In my opinion, David's Bridal has good prices on their dresses, but that's where the benefit of shopping there ends.  My experience wasn't terrible, but I can totally see where other brides have had difficulties.  They definitely seem to be understaffed and the staff that they do have isn't as knowledgeable as other salons.  I was very surprised that after finding a dress I loved in a price range I wanted to pay, the price for alterations was astronomical, including the ridiculous prices they charge to add a bustle??  Doesn't seem like anything that complicated.

My recommendation?? Find a dress you love, make a note of the style number, and find it used online.  There are a TON of sites (oncewed, recycledbride, weddingdressmarket, even eBay and Craigslist).  I lucked out and found the exact dress at less than half the price, the bustle had already been added, and now all I need to pay for is shortening (it's a corset back) at a local dressmaker.  The bottom was a little bit dirty, but I'll be cutting that off, so no worries!

Most salons cut out the tag that tells you the designer and style number, David's Bridal makes it easy with their online catalogue.  Hope this helps!

So on a SEMI positive note, I got my gown from David's.  I had gone in there before, so I knew what to expect.  The ONLY reasons I went in there were A) I already have a reception dress from a bridal boutique that I LOVE! and B) I did not want to spend over $300 for the ceremony dress.  So, I found a dress for $250 that I am satisfied with.  It is lightweight, flowy, and exactly the type of thing I was looking for.

The service is not all that spectacular, and it is a little rushed with consultants often juggling brides. Best time to go is on a weekday, then you will likely get one on one attention.  It is a busy place with a mall store atmosphere, no aesthetics or nice decor.  If you go in there expecting a posh boutique, with boutique service, you WILL be disappointed.  I knew what I was up against so I just took it all in stride, handled my business, and got out of there.

So Davids Bridal just opened in Toronto, I have just started my dress search and thought I'd take my mom and sister to the store.  I was searching the dress thread for dress ideas when I found this and I just had to post about my experience for Canadian brides.  First of all I knew the place was not the fanciest bridal salon out there however I was surprised at the terrible service I received.  I read this thread and I basically had the same experience.  I called to make an appointment in advance as I knew they were opening that week.  I was put on hold for about 5 minutes, it should have been a sign.  So my appointment was for noon but they failed to mention that it was the stores grand opening day.  I read on this forum that someone had gone in the store so I was under the assumption that they had already had their grand opening.  We got to the store 5 minutes late for my appointment and waited 10 minutes to check in.  During our wait the 3 staff members standing there did not even acknowledge us.  There was another bride in front of us and she was assisted by someone right away.  They told us they wouldn't have anyone to help us for a few minutes.  We wandered around the store a bit, then about 20 minutes later we were told that we were going to be helped by someone.  It was a man.  And he was in the middle of someone Else's appointment.  Seriously!  My sister wanted to walk out of there right away.  I told him what I was looking for and he said he would pull some dresses.  So we went looking at them, he pulled two and then walked away to the other bride.  Then came back and pulled ones completely opposite to what i was looking for.  My sister started pulling dresses and carried them over to the dressing room, my mom had to help me to get on the dresses.  I tried on a few but he didn't' really say much to me.  He was terrible, he didn't tell me about the opening deals, some other lady walked over to tell me how nice I looked in a dress and to fix my bra in the back and adjust the dress.  There were a ton of people that were working there but none of them seemed to be doing much.  Overall it was a terrible experience.  A word of advice I found a dress I liked at the store, I went on line and the dress is $300 cheaper on the US site.  I would suggest driving to Buffalo if anyone really wants a dress from David's with the dollar worth more than the USD.

After my experience with Davids Bridal last week, I will never let anyone I know getting married to step foot in there! It started when I made my appt, the girl on the phone told me to creat a profile online, put the dresses I want to try on into my favorites, and they will have them ready before I get there. So, I did that. Took the day off work for my appt cause it was the only time slot they had. Arrived right on time for my appt - but it took 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge I was there! Wasn't mad yet...finally when they decided to check me in, the couldn't pull my profile up (which they said they would do that ahead of time) but I was able to on my phone and they printed it off. The lady helping me asked what type of dress I was looking for, I showed her the ones on my profile (something flowy, beachy, not too heavy) so she says "Oh, you are having a beach wedding, so you just want something short then", I again said "no, I want something like the ones I put into my profile - elegant, lightweight" she looked at me like I was nuts. Ok, still wasn't mad...let it slide...So, she brings me out these huge ballgown style dresses to try on - as if she was being a smart a** cause I wanted a wedding dress instead of what she thought I should wear! I looked at my friend, who tells me to just try a few on, who knows I may like them. So, I did, and kept saying this is not what I want, they are like 25lbs! And too puffy! I asked her about the 7 dresses that I put in my profile, and she tells me that they don't have ANY of them. When I found them online, they were "in store only - and new arrivals" when I told her that, she tells me "no, they were clearanced out". So, I asked if she could call other stores to see if they had maybe even 1 out of the 7, and she tells me she is going to call, but it was taking a little while, so my friend & I walk over around the other side of the store, and she is sifting through more huge dresses! I asked what was going on, and she says that no stores within 50 miles have any of the dresses! I kinda thought it BS. Don't think she ever did call any of them. So, I was polite and told her that I was done trying on dresses, they didn't have any of the style I was looking for and thanks for her time blah blah blah. She has the nerve to tell me that I HAVE to buy a dress that night! Mind you, I was only trying on dresses for an hour at most - it wasn't like I took up her whole day. At that point, I did get mad, told the woman that I was told to have the dresses I wanted into my profile, they never pulled it up, never had them ready and never bothered to call me and even let me know before I drove out there! I didn't waste her time, this is your job, she wasted my time. Then I told her that even if I did find a dress I liked, I wouldn't buy it from her after that comment! Basically, their customer service, & sales I thought were very poor. And just a heads up - they really try to push their charge card on you. I wasn't interested, some people may be, but I had to hear about it 4 times within the hour I was there. It was just one of those not so happy experiences that you hope for looking for a wedding dress. I ended up getting mine at a little bridal boutique that was having a Maddie Sottero trunk show. The people there were wonderful, and most of those private stores offer free alterations. The one I got mine at told me that if they have to do 5 alterations, all included and gaurenteed by the date I need it, even if they have to stay up day & night doing them and they won't let me leave with it until I am 100% satisfied! Davids Bridal on the other hand, couldn't gaurentee me 1 alteration (that I would of had to pay for and need regardless any dress cause of height) because it is prom season. Apparently, during prom season, I was also told by that woman, that prom customers are their top priority, that's why my alteration would get pushed back....Nice....Isn't it called Davids BRIDAL!

I had made plans with my FI to spend the weekend inn Buffalo before we found out that it was actually opening up around the corner. My experience was perfect, all that I could handle. I didn't make an appointment, walked in on a Saturday afternoon. I had a great sales person, had only worked there about a month, found 3 dresses to try on, narrowed it down to 2, tried them on a second time and made my decision. We were in and out of the store in about an hour and a half, took the dress home with me, and have an appointment in 2 weeks for alterations at the Davids Bridal here. Overall, fantastic experience, just enough fussing for me. I'm sorry that there have been some bad experiences, maybe it was just that particular store??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
