Hello Ladies

Did anyone else get this notice from ILA??

This is to inform all of you who have future weddings booked in our hotel that as a new regulation created by the MINJUS (Ministry of Justice) of Cuba there is a tax on documents to be paid for weddings, appart from the price of the wedding as such (or wedding package), which must be paid to the Notary in cash. This cash is used to pay for the different stamps required to legalise the marriage certificate afterwards at the MINREX and Consulate/Embassy.* In the case of single parties the tax consists of 40 cuc and for divorced parties it is 85 cuc.

*

Please, these costs and new regulations have been decided at national level and have no relation whatsoever with the specific hotels, as it has been ruled by the MINJUS of Cuba and are applicable to all marriages of foreigners that are celebrated in any part of the Cuban territory.

I wasn't sent this notice, mind you I haven't heard from Yahimara in weeks so I'm sure that we'll find out about it on Saturday. At least it's only $40...

Hey Lisa aka PaulsGirl, we don't fly out until 8:30pm on May 1, so I will try to find you and let you know about any issues that may come up during the wedding - hopefully none!

Only 2 more sleeps! Leaving very early Friday morning so I'm not counting Thursday nite lol Wish me luck, girls!! Expect loads of pictures when I get back :)

Yay Siobhan I am so excited for you!! Have a great time and a beautiful wedding day! We will all be dying for pics when you get back LOL. Did you get a response from Yahimara about the seating plan btw? I was wanting to put some tables of six together but I haven't heard back from her in awhile. I still have to send her my documents as well but we don't have a scanner so I am hoping Friday isn't too late for her.

I haven't heard anything about this new tax either, but if it means an extra cost than I'm not surprised. At this point, it's kinda to be expected and I agree at least it's only forty bucks.

Hey Siobhan! That is sooo exciting that you leave so soon! You're going to have a fantastic time!! Our photography told me today that his friend went to our resort and she LOVED it, had an awesome time! If I don't see you, have a fantastic wedding!!! We fly out of Toronto at 6:30am and should be arriving at the resort around noon on the 1st i'm guessing. Then its time to put together the OOT bags! LOL

I've also been waiting for a response from Yahimara. She has been very slow in responding lately, guess she has a lot of weddings going on. I'm also trying to figure out the seating plan and if its tables of 6, 8, etc. I'm thinking I'll just bring a seating plan with me and see what happens lol worst case everyone fends for themselves and finds a seat!

I have also asked her about adding our own wording to the ceremony (after the legal party) and no response. I'm bringing a script down with me regardless. All we'd like to do is a hand ceremony, vow & ring exchange. Nothing too long.

I believe if you are doing a symbolic ceremony some hotels may do it, but it would depend on the wedding coordinator. I could be wrong but I believe the issue you are going to have is that to have a legal civil ceremony you will need the notary to perform the ceremony and in Varadero there are two and they work Mon-Fri.

Hi,

This is what it says in the wedding package I recieved from the wedding coordinator at the resort;

"Days available for the weddings according to the Lawyerâ€s Office: Monday to Friday, from 11:00 to 16:00 hours. In case clients request other times or days, it has an extra charge of 150 CUC."

I don't know if this information is still accurate. It seems like the 'rules' and 'procedures' in Cuba change all the time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
